Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Yield Trials" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an agronomy results sheet read on a dark screen. Sober slate, pale wheat-gold dots, honest gray uncertainty and one rust mark for the reference variety.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C222B (slate). Alternate row bands: #222A35. Gridlines and dividers: #2E3743.
- Marks: #E6CF8B (pale wheat gold). Reference or check item: #C2582E (deep rust). Confidence whiskers: #6F7885 (muted gray).
- Text: #E9E4D8 for the title, row names and the mean line; #98A0AC for the subtitle, values and axis labels.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Source Serif 4 600 for the title (32px, stating the finding) and the side takeaway (16px, gold).
- Source Sans 3 for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in gold, subtitle 16px, row names 14px 500 right-aligned (the check 700 in rust), values 12.5px with tabular figures, axis labels 12.5px, notes 12.5 to 13.5px, the "CHECK" badge 9.5px 700 with 0.8px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 56px side margins; eyebrow, title, subtitle at the top.
- Rows sorted from highest to lowest, 29px each, with every other row banded in #222A35 across the names and plot.
- A narrow side column to the right of the plot, behind a 1px #2E3743 divider: "READING THE CHART" (10.5px 700 uppercase) with three short term / definition pairs, then a serif takeaway sentence.
- Source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #2E3743 gridlines every 10 units, labels 20px below the last row, the unit ("bu/ac") right-aligned under them. The value axis does not need to start at zero because marks are drawn from the mean, not from zero.
- A 1px #E9E4D8 line at 70% opacity for the overall mean, rising 12px above the first row, with "Trial mean 215.3" in 12.5px 600 centered above it.

Marks:
- Bar chart (lollipops): for each row a stem from the mean line to the value (1.5px gold at 55% opacity; 2px rust at 90% for the check), a gray 1.3px whisker for the 95% interval with 10px end caps, and a dot on top (r 5.5 gold, r 6.5 rust for the check) with a 1.5px slate ring. Value labels sit on the far side of the whisker from the mean line (right of it for above-mean rows, left for below-mean rows) so they never cross a stem.
- Line chart: plot each series as a dot-and-whisker per period joined by a 1.5px gold line, the check series in rust, the mean as the same cream reference line drawn horizontally.
- Mark the check with a rust pill (18px tall, 3px radius, slate text "CHECK") left of its name.

Avoid: bars from zero on a truncated axis, bright colors, more than one accent, gradients, and a legend box (define marks in the side column instead).

When you're done, render the chart and check that rows are sorted, the mean printed at the top equals the average of the plotted values, counts in the title and takeaway match the data, and no value label crosses a stem or the mean line.
