Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Maison" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a couture house lookbook. Quiet, centered and expensive: soft ivory paper, a thin black frame, a small monogram, very wide letterspacing and a great deal of empty space. Nothing shouts; the only warmth is one champagne line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F3EA (soft ivory) for the whole canvas.
- Ink: #111111 for the frame, the monogram, the title, the x-axis baseline, year labels and the first series.
- Champagne: #B8975A for the second (featured) series, its labels, its annotation and the inner ring of the monogram.
- Stone: #8A8378 for the subtitle, y-axis labels, the flanking words beside the monogram and the source line.
- Hairline: #DCD5C7 for the gridlines.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Italiana (a thin high-contrast display face, one weight) for the title: 36px, ALL CAPS, 7px letter-spacing, #111111, centered. Also for the monogram letter (27px) and the end-of-line values (20px).
- Tenor Sans for every small label, always uppercase and tracked: subtitle 11px with 3.2px letter-spacing; axis labels 10 to 10.5px with 1.5 to 2.4px letter-spacing; series names 10px with 2.4px letter-spacing; annotation 9.5px with 2px letter-spacing; source 9px with 3px letter-spacing, centered at the foot of the page.

Layout:
- A 1px #111111 frame inset 28px from every edge, and a second 0.4px frame (50% opacity) 6px inside it.
- Monogram roundel at top center (center y 78): a 24px-radius circle filled ivory with a 0.9px #111111 stroke, a 20px-radius 0.6px #B8975A inner ring, and one Italiana capital inside. Two 0.6px #111111 hairlines (78px long) run left and right from the roundel, each ending in a tracked 10px word ("MAISON" and "ATELIER") in #8A8378.
- Title centered at y 150, subtitle centered at y 180 stating measure, unit and period.
- Plot from about x 148 to 744 and y 222 to 496, with a right-hand gutter for the direct labels.

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines 0.6px #DCD5C7 at round values; no vertical gridlines, no y-axis line.
- Y labels 10px Tenor Sans, #8A8378, right-aligned 22px left of the plot.
- A 0.8px #111111 baseline with 5px 0.6px ticks at each category; category labels 10.5px, 2.4px letter-spacing, #111111, 24px below the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments, no markers, round joins. The first series is a fine 1.2px #111111 line; the featured series is a 2.4px #B8975A line drawn beneath it. Label each line at its right end: a hairline leader (0.5px) angles out to the label, then the final value in Italiana 20px followed 42px later by the series name in tracked Tenor Sans 10px, both in the series color. Nudge the two labels apart vertically so they never touch.
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered bars (about 35% of the band) in #111111 with the featured bar in #B8975A; values above each bar in Italiana 18px; the same tracked uppercase category labels, baseline and hairline grid.
- At most one annotation: a 0.6px champagne vertical leader from a notable point to a tiny tracked uppercase note (for example "58 ORDERS, 2020").

Avoid: markers, fills, shadows, gradients, bold weights, a legend box, more than two colors of ink, sentence-case labels and anything crowding the margins.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title and subtitle are truly centered, the monogram sits on the page's center line, the right-end labels do not collide, every small label is uppercase and tracked, and the frame is unbroken on all four sides.
