Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pickup Report" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a hotel revenue management booking-pace screen. Clean, white and operational, with one warm butter header strip and a clear call to action about the gap still to close.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF. Header strip: #FFF4CC (pale butter) with a 1px #EADFB0 bottom edge.
- Primary series (this year / current): #0E7C7B (teal), with a #0E7C7B area fill at 8% opacity under it.
- Target series (budget / plan): #E0A100 (amber) for the line; use the darker #8C6400 for amber text so it stays readable.
- Comparison series (last year): #8A9099 (gray).
- Ink: #1F2A33. Secondary text: #5E6873. Gridlines: #E6E8EB. Axis baseline and ticks: #B9BFC6. Future zone shading: #F6F7F8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rubik for everything. Header property name 13px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; header labels 11px 500 uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing; stay-date pill text 14px 600.
- Title 28px 600 in #1F2A33, stating the finding with the number ("New Year's Eve needs 129 more rooms to hit budget"). Subtitle 15px 400 #5E6873 with measure, unit and a comparison sentence.
- Legend 13px 500, tick labels 12px, end labels 13px (600 for budget), the callout number 21px 700, callout caption 10.5px 600 uppercase with 1.3px letter-spacing, source 11.5px.

Layout:
- A 54px butter header strip across the full width: property name left, a thin vertical divider, a report name, then on the right an uppercase "STAY DATE" label beside a white pill (26px tall, fully rounded, 1px #E4D494 stroke) holding the date, and an "As of" date at the far right.
- Title at y 102, subtitle at y 132, a one-row legend at y 160, plot from about x 84 to 792 and y 186 to 506, leaving a 130px right gutter for end labels and the callout. Source bottom left, a small context note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #E6E8EB horizontal gridlines at round steps, y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. A darker #B9BFC6 zero line.
- For booking pace the x axis counts DOWN (90 on the left to "Arrival" in 600 ink on the right) so lines climb to the right; axis title "Days before arrival" centered below.
- A dotted 1px ink line at 50% opacity marks capacity, labeled "Capacity 340" in 11.5px 500.
- A "today" marker: a 1px #9AA2AB vertical line, everything to its right shaded #F6F7F8, with "TODAY" (11px 700, 1.4px tracking) and "21 days out" (11.5px) just inside the shaded zone at the top.

Marks:
- Line chart: current series as a 4px teal line with round joins that stops at today, ending in a 6.5px teal dot with a 2.5px white ring and a bold teal label ("189 on the books"). Last year as a 2.4px gray dotted line (dash 0.1 5 with round caps, so it reads as dots). Budget as a 2.4px amber dashed line (9 on, 5 off), smoothed with a monotone curve. Both comparison lines run to arrival, with end labels right of their final points.
- Gap callout: a 1.5px teal dotted leader from today's value to the arrival column, a 1.4px ink square bracket from that level up to the budget end point (hollow white circle with a 2.5px amber ring), and a white box (124 x 60, radius 6, 1.4px ink stroke) holding the gap in 21px 700 ("129 rooms") over "PICKUP NEEDED".
- Bar chart: vertical bars in teal for the current period with 3px top corners, last year as narrow gray bars behind them, and budget drawn as a 2.4px amber dashed tick across each bar's slot; the largest shortfall gets the same boxed "pickup needed" callout.

Avoid: dark backgrounds, gradients, drop shadows, more than one accent strip, legends far from the plot, and amber text on white at the line color (use #8C6400 for amber text).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the x axis runs toward arrival on the right, the pickup number equals budget minus the current value, the dotted and dashed lines stay distinguishable at small size, and nothing in the right gutter collides.
