Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cheese Cave" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the affinage log pinned up in a cheesemaker's ageing cave. Warm, patient and handmade, but kept with a craftsperson's precision: cream paper, one washed-rind orange for the hero measure, a cool damp gray-blue for the supporting readings, and a rubber-stamped batch number.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F6EFDC (pale rind cream) for the whole canvas.
- Primary series, eyebrow, event ticks, border and stamp: #C8742D (washed-rind orange).
- Supporting readings strip (numbers, droplets, label): #7C93A8 (cave gray-blue). Strip background: #EFE5CB.
- Title and baseline ink: #3B2E22. Secondary text and axis labels: #7D6D57. Gridlines: #E4D8BC.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Crimson Pro 600 for the title (32px, #3B2E22, sentence case, stating the finding). Crimson Pro 700 for the end-value callout (22px orange) and the stamp number (20px). Crimson Pro italic 400, 14px, for the footer note on the right.
- Cabin for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in orange (producer, log name and cave separated by middle dots); subtitle 15px #7D6D57 naming the measure, unit and the supporting readings; axis labels 13px; the unit caption ("kg") 12px 700 above the axis; series label 13px 700 orange; strip values 13px 600 gray-blue; key and source 12px.

Layout:
- A 1.5px #C8742D border with 6px corner radius inset 14px from the canvas edge, plus a second 0.6px orange line at 55% opacity inset 20px (radius 3), like a printed card.
- 56px side margins inside. Eyebrow at y 62, title at y 106, subtitle at y 136.
- Plot area from x 124 to 880, y 184 to 414. Period labels 28px under the baseline, with a "Week" caption to their left.
- A readings strip below the axis (centered around y 470): a #EFE5CB rounded rectangle (radius 8, 44px tall) spanning the plot plus 20px each side, with "Cave RH / %" in gray-blue at its left, and in each period column a tiny gray-blue droplet above the reading (13px 600, one decimal). This replaces a second axis: never add a right-hand scale.
- Under the strip, a one-line key: an orange tick with "Turning day, twice weekly" on the left and a computed range note ("Humidity held between 92.8% and 94.2%") right-aligned.
- Stamp in the top right: a rounded rectangle about 132 x 54 px (radius 10) with a 2.4px orange stroke broken by tiny gaps (dasharray 30 2 14 1.5 40 2) and an inner 0.8px rectangle (radius 6), rotated -5 degrees at 88% opacity. Inside: "BATCH" in Cabin 10px 700 with 3px letter-spacing and the batch number in Crimson Pro 700 20px, both orange and centered. It must clear the title.
- Footer at y 572: "Source: ..." on the left, an italic note on the right.

Axes and grid:
- One y scale only. Horizontal 1px #E4D8BC gridlines at each tick; labels 13px #7D6D57 right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No vertical axis line.
- A 1.2px #3B2E22 baseline. Every fourth period label bold in #3B2E22, the rest #7D6D57.
- Event ticks: tiny 7px vertical orange ticks (1.4px) just under the baseline for each routine event (turning days twice a week).

Marks:
- Line chart: a thick 4.5px orange smoothed (monotone) line with round caps; small hollow r 2.6 markers (cream fill, 1.6px orange ring) at intermediate points, a solid r 5.5 dot at the start and a hollow r 6 cream dot with a 3px orange ring at the end. Label the start value ("10.40 kg at make", 13px 700) and the end value (22px Crimson Pro 700) directly in orange, with the series name above the end value. No legend box.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars from zero in #C8742D at about 45% of the band, the last bar's value in 22px Crimson Pro 700 orange above it, and the same gray-blue readings strip under the axis for any supporting measure.

Avoid: a dual axis, drop shadows, gradients, heavy borders beyond the double hairline card, more than two data colors, a boxed legend, and letting the stamp touch the title.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stamp clears the title, the readings sit exactly under their period labels, the range note and headline percentage match the data, and there is only one y scale.
