Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gravity Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a brewer's fermentation log sheet on pale yellow engineering graph paper. Practical, hand-kept and precise: typewriter figures, a boxed log header, one pencilled note in the margin.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #FBF6DE over the whole canvas, with a 10px minor grid in #E2E4C4 (0.6px) and a 50px major grid in #C6CDA6 (1px) covering everything.
- A single vertical margin rule at x = 30 in #C0392B at 35% opacity.
- Primary series: #5C8A2E (hop green). Secondary series: #C0392B (red).
- Ink (title, frames, ticks, header block): #2E3326. Muted text: #6F7461. Pencil annotations: #3D4A63.
- Shaded phase (e.g. cold crash): #7FA6C4 at 13% opacity, its label in #4E7394.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cabin for the title (700, 29px, #2E3326, stating the finding), subtitle (400, 14.5px, #6F7461, measure and unit) and panel labels (700, 13.5px).
- DM Mono for everything tabular: eyebrow (500, 11px, 1.5px letter-spacing, uppercase, hop green), tick labels (400, 12px, tinted in the color of the series the panel shows), axis title (10px, 1.5px letter-spacing, uppercase, muted), data callouts (500, 11.5 to 12px), footer (11px).
- Caveat for the pencilled annotation only (600, 24px headline; 400, 20px second line), in #3D4A63.

Layout:
- Plot spans x 100 to 920, aligned to the 10px grid. Eyebrow at y 58, title at 94, subtitle at 120.
- Top right: a "BREWER'S LOG" header block, 280 x 90 at (640, 30), fill #FFFCEB, 1.2px ink border, a 22px ink title strip with paper-colored DM Mono 11px text (left "BREWER'S LOG", right the batch id), then a 3 x 2 grid of cells split by 0.6px ink rules. Each cell has a 9px muted key (OG, FG, ABV, STYLE, TANK, PITCH) above a 14px 500 value.
- Footer at y 580: "Source: ..." left, a formula or note right, both DM Mono 11px muted.

Axes and grid:
- Each panel is a framed box (1.2px ink stroke, no fill); the paper grid is the only gridline. Ticks are 5px ink lines pointing outward; y labels right-aligned 9px left of the frame.
- Two measures with different units never share a y axis: stack them as two panels on a shared x axis. The main panel (y 170 to 400) holds the primary measure; a shallow strip (y 440 to 510) holds the secondary one with three ticks (0, mid, max). Each panel gets a legend-style label above it: a 28px line sample in the series style plus its name.
- x labels below the lower panel every other step ("D0", "D2" ...), axis title 20px below them.

Marks:
- Line chart: primary series as a 2.6px #5C8A2E polyline with straight segments and 10 x 10 square markers (hop green fill, 1.5px paper stroke). Secondary series as a 1.8px #C0392B dashed line (6 on, 4 off), no markers. A reference level (e.g. terminal gravity) is a 1.2px dashed line (8 on, 5 off) in the series color with an uppercase DM Mono 10.5px label beneath its left end. Ring the key point with an 11px pencil circle (1.4px, #3D4A63).
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars in #5C8A2E, about 55% of the band, from a zero baseline inside the framed panel, each with a 1.5px paper outline so the graph paper reads between bars; value labels in DM Mono 12px above. Any second measure goes in the lower strip as a dashed red line or as DM Mono values, never on a second axis.

Labels and annotation:
- One hand-written note: a curved 1.6px pencil stroke ending in an open two-stroke arrowhead near the point, with the Caveat headline and a smaller second line beside it.
- Label first and last values directly in DM Mono in the series color.

Avoid: a right-hand y axis, gradients, shadows, rounded corners, a separate legend box, and more than one handwritten annotation.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the grid squares stay crisp and aligned with the frame, no label touches a panel border, the header block values agree with the data, and the two panels share exactly the same x positions.
