Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cupping Form" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed coffee cupping score card filled in by a grader. Quiet, precise and tactile: a cream card, a dark roast printed border, typewriter-like scores and one red pencil mark on the standout result.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Card: #F8F2E6 (cream) for the whole canvas, also the fill inside hollow markers and checkboxes.
- Printed ink: #4A2E1F (dark roast brown) for the border, rules, axis ruler, the data line, markers, checkboxes and most text.
- Pencil: #B04A32 (red pencil) only for the hand-drawn circle around the best value, its value label, its short italic note and its checkmark.
- Secondary text: #86705F. Faint gridlines and row dividers: #CDBBA0 (tan).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Newsreader 600 at 34px in #4A2E1F for the title (sentence case, stating the finding); Newsreader italic 400 at 17px in #86705F for the subtitle (measure, scale, period); Newsreader italic 14px for the source line and 16px in #B04A32 for the pencil note ("best lot").
- Space Mono for all figures and labels: header strip 12px 700 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing (left) and 12px 400 in #86705F (right); value labels 12px; axis labels 12px 700 on whole points and 10px 400 #86705F on half points, always two decimals (7.25); category labels 12px (the best one 700); checkbox row labels 11px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A printed double border: a 4px #4A2E1F rectangle inset 18px from the canvas edge and a 0.8px rectangle inset 27px.
- 56px inner side margins. A header strip at y 66 ("CUPPING FORM · LOT LC-07" left, the farm name right), a 1.2px rule under it, then the title and subtitle.
- Plot from about x 140 to 880 and y 186 to 388, with the scale ruler at x 112.
- Below the plot, a checkbox grid (one row per category of a secondary attribute, such as process: Washed, Natural, Honey), bracketed by 0.8px #4A2E1F rules, rows 26px apart divided by 0.6px tan rules, with a 14px square checkbox (1.1px stroke) under each x position. A checked box gets a 2.2px round-capped checkmark.
- Footer at y 552: source left, "GRADER ___M.R.___ SHEET 3 / 10" in Space Mono 11px #86705F right.

Axes and grid:
- The y axis is a cupping ruler: a 1.2px vertical line with ticks at every quarter point (12px long and 1.4px at whole points, 8px at half points, 4px at quarter points, 0.9px), labels to the left at whole and half points. For a 6 to 10 cupping scale use exactly that range; otherwise pick a range with 16 quarter steps.
- Gridlines across the plot at whole points (0.8px #CDBBA0 solid) and half points (0.6px #CDBBA0, dash 2 4). A 1.2px #4A2E1F baseline. No x axis line other than the baseline; category labels 22px below it.

Marks:
- Line chart: one 2.2px #4A2E1F straight-segment line with round joins, hollow circles (r 5.5, #F8F2E6 fill, 2px #4A2E1F stroke) at every point, and each value in Space Mono 12px 13px above the point (22px below when the value fell from the previous one).
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered bars about 22px wide as hollow outlines (2px #4A2E1F stroke, #F8F2E6 fill) with a 3px solid #4A2E1F cap line at the top, value labels 12px above, the same ruler axis, and the best bar circled in pencil.
- Best value: a hand-drawn #B04A32 pencil ellipse (about 64 x 46px, 2px round-capped stroke, 0.92 opacity) drawn as one slightly wobbly loop whose end overshoots its start, its value in Space Mono 700 15px #B04A32 about 40px above the point and an italic note "best lot" on the same baseline just left of that value, clear of neighboring point labels.

Avoid: fills, gradients, shadows, color on anything but the one pencil mark, sans-serif text, rounded corners, and a legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ruler ticks land exactly on quarter points, value labels never collide with the line or the pencil circle, the checkbox columns align with the data points, and the pencil mark marks the true maximum.
