Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Glossy Feature" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the opening data page of a glossy lifestyle magazine feature. Bright, high-contrast and fashionable: an enormous high-contrast serif headline, one hot accent color, lots of white and almost no chart furniture.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF, pure white.
- Ink: #111111 for the headline, the secondary series and the baseline.
- Accent: #E6007E (hot magenta) for the kicker, the italic word in the headline, the primary series and its labels, and the short rule above the pull-quote caption.
- Pull-quote numeral: #FCE4F0 (pale blush), sitting behind the plot.
- Dek text #444444; axis labels, source and folio #7A7A7A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda for the headline (400, 64px, -1.5px letter-spacing, sentence case) mixing roman and italic: set the key word of the finding in italic magenta, e.g. "The guest list, *halved*". Also for the dek (italic 400, 19px), the value labels (700, 24px) and the giant pull-quote numeral (italic 700, 440px, -18px letter-spacing).
- Jost for all small caps: kicker 600 12px uppercase with 3.6px letter-spacing in magenta; axis labels 500 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; series labels 600 12px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; pull-quote caption 600 11px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #111111, three short lines 18px apart; source 11px with 1px letter-spacing; folio "PAGE 48" 500 11px, 2.4px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Generous 72px left margin. Kicker at y 64, headline baseline at y 136, dek at y 176.
- The plot occupies the left two-thirds (x 72 to 710, about y 230 to 520). The right third holds the pull-quote: a 120px x 1.5px magenta rule at y 226 and a three-line caption under it starting at x 760.
- The giant pull-quote numeral (a fraction or percentage that states the finding, such as "½") is placed with its left edge near x 612 and baseline near y 560 so it bleeds off the right and bottom edges of the page, behind the plot and the caption. Clip it at the page edge.
- Source bottom left at y 574, folio bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis, no gridlines, no tick marks.
- Only a 1px #111111 baseline across the plot and the category or time labels under it, 26px below, in tracked Jost caps.

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary series is a 3.5px #E6007E line, the secondary a 2.5px #111111 line, straight segments with round joins and caps. Only the first and last points get a dot (r 5, same color, 2px white ring). The first and last values sit beside those dots in Bodoni Moda 700 24px in the series color. Label each series directly once, mid-line, in Jost caps (magenta below the magenta line, black above the black line).
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars about 40% of the band, secondary categories #111111 and the highlighted category #E6007E, no gridlines, a Bodoni Moda 700 24px value above each bar and tracked Jost caps under the 1px baseline. The giant pale numeral still bleeds off the right edge behind the bars.

Labels and annotation:
- No legend box: series names are set directly on or beside the lines.
- The pull-quote caption restates the finding in plain words ("Town weddings now host half the guests they did in the 1950s").

Avoid: gridlines, axis lines other than the baseline, colored backgrounds, drop shadows, gradients, rounded corners, more than one accent color, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline mixes roman and a magenta italic word, the giant pale numeral is clipped at the page edge and never covers a data label, the plot keeps the left two-thirds, and the pull-quote claim is arithmetically true.
