Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Run Worm" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the cumulative-runs "worm" printed on a cricket scorecard in a club yearbook. Cream paper, a classic news serif, double rules and quiet italic commentary. Traditional and tidy, never sporty or loud.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EC (scorecard cream) for the whole canvas.
- First series: #2E7D4F (pitch green). Second series: #7A1F2B (maroon). Further series, if any: #B4822C then #3C5A7A.
- Ink for titles, scores and the target line: #2A2622. Secondary text: #7A7064. Gridlines and footer rule: #D8CFBE.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Old Standard TT: title 700 34px #2A2622 stating the finding; a result line directly under it in italic 400 17px ink; series names in the side labels 700 17px in the series color; annotations italic 14 to 15px.
- Lato with tabular figures for everything else: eyebrow and header right-hand label 700 11px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #7A7064; subtitle 14px #7A7064 naming the measure; axis labels 12px #7A7064; axis names ("RUNS", "OVERS") 700 11px uppercase 1.6px letter-spacing; scores in the side labels 700 20px ink; details 12px muted; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. At the very top a double rule across the full width: 1.6px ink with a 0.6px ink line 4px below it. Eyebrow on the left and a match label ("TEAM A v TEAM B") on the right 22px below the rules.
- Title, then the italic result line, then the subtitle. The plot runs from x 96 to x 756 and from y 196 to y 520.
- A 140px scorecard column to the right of the plot: for each series a 16px colored stroke, the name, the final score in large figures and a one-line detail, placed level with where each line ends. Beneath them a small key: a dot for "Wicket fell" and a dashed stroke for "Target".
- Footer: a 1px #D8CFBE rule, "Source: ..." at left, and an italic venue line at right.

Axes and grid:
- Y from zero with gridlines every 50 units, 0.8px #D8CFBE, labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No y-axis line.
- A 1.2px ink baseline with 5px ticks every 10 units on x; the x-axis name sits in uppercase just right of the last tick label.
- Shade an opening phase (here the powerplay) with ink at 3.5% opacity and label it "POWERPLAY" in 10px uppercase at its top.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight-segment cumulative lines, 2.6px, round joins. Every event (a wicket) is a filled circle r 4.6 in the line's color with a 1.6px cream ring, placed on the line at that step. A target or threshold is a 1.2px ink line dashed 6 on, 4 off across the whole plot, labeled "TARGET 269" in Lato 700 11px just above it.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered vertical bars in the series color (about 55% of the band), grouped side by side for two series, with the event dots sitting 6px above the bar tops and a dashed ink target line across. Same gridlines, baseline and side column.

Labels and annotation:
- Annotate one story in italic serif in the series color: a thin 1px bracket above the relevant stretch of the line with a two-line note beside it ("4 wickets for 35 runs, overs 33 to 41").
- A dotted 1px connector between two lines at a key moment with an italic ink note next to it.

Avoid: a boxed legend, gradients, shadows, rounded corners, bright sporty colors, markers on every point (dots mean events only), and a second y axis.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the result line and annotations are arithmetically true for the data, event dots sit exactly on their lines, no annotation touches the target line or another series, and the side labels line up with where each line ends.
