Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Floor Set" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a fashion retailer's merchandising review. Quiet, editorial and monochrome: the data is drawn in black and grays, and the only color comes from pale tinted bands that divide the season into chapters, like floor sets in a store.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF8F5 (warm white).
- Series, in order of importance: #111111 (black), #555555 (graphite), #A7A7A7 (soft gray). The lightest series label uses #8C8C8C so it stays readable.
- Chapter bands, in order: sand #EFE6D6, blush #F2DEDA, sage #E1E8DC, stone #E7E4DF. Their small caps names use a deeper tone of the same hue: #9C8563, #A1716A, #6E8264, #7F786E.
- Secondary text: #7A756E. Footer rule: #E2DDD5.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Syne 700 for the title (31px, -0.6px letter-spacing, #111111, sentence case, stating the finding) and the brand eyebrow (12px, 4px letter-spacing, uppercase). Syne 600 10.5px with 2.5px letter-spacing for the uppercase footer folio.
- Libre Caslon Text for everything else: italic 13px #7A756E tagline beside the eyebrow; 15px #555555 subtitle naming measure, unit and period; band names 14px in small caps (font-variant: small-caps, lowercase source text) with 1.2px letter-spacing; italic 11px band sublabels ("Set 2, weeks 7–12"); 12px axis labels; bold 14px series end labels with the latest value in 13px regular below; italic 12px annotations; 11.5px source line.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124.
- Plot from x 88 to 800, y 168 to 508. The right 100px holds the series end labels.
- Footer: a 1px #E2DDD5 rule at y 552, source note left and folio right at y 574.

Axes and grid:
- The chapter bands fill the full plot height edge to edge, with a 2px page-colored gap between them. Each band's name sits 10px in from its left edge, 20px below the plot top, with the italic sublabel 16px below.
- Leave the top 58px of the plot free of data so the band names never touch a line.
- Horizontal gridlines at round values drawn in the page color (#FAF8F5, 1px) so they read as cuts through the tinted bands, not as ink. Y labels in #7A756E right-aligned 10px left of the plot. No y-axis line.
- A 1px #111111 baseline with 5px ticks at every period and labels ("W1", "W4") every third period.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight 2.6px (primary) and 2.2px (others) lines with round joins, drawn lightest first so black sits on top. A 3.6px dot with a 1.5px page-colored ring marks the first period of each chapter and the last point. Label each series at its right end: bold name in the series color, value below.
- Bar chart: the same chapter bands behind the bars. Slim square-cornered bars in #111111 (single series) or grouped in black, graphite and soft gray, 2px gaps within a group. Value labels in 12px Libre Caslon Text above the primary series only.

Labels and annotation:
- One italic 12px annotation on the key moment, two lines, joined to its point by a 0.8px black leader.

Avoid: saturated colors, legends (label line ends directly), gradients, shadows, rounded corners, vertical gridlines, and band tints stronger than the listed pastels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the band names are in small caps and clear of every line, the end labels do not collide, the pale bands read as four distinct chapters, and the title's claim holds for the data.
