Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Show Run" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a theater producer's weekly report on a long run. Warm ivory paper, one thick deep red line carrying the story, and the run's key moments hanging off it as small italic notes, like a well-kept production ledger.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF8F1 (ivory) for the whole canvas.
- Primary series and accents: #8B1E2D (deep red). Used for the main line, its area tint (6% opacity), annotated point rings, the final-point dot, the hero value and the eyebrow.
- Secondary measure: #8C8A85 (warm gray), only for the thin line in the lower inset panel and its label.
- Ink: #2A2522 for the title, annotation text, stems and the axis baseline. Secondary text #7A726A. Gridlines and footer rule #E3DDD1.
- Previews (or any pre-launch period) band: #F1EADC.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Display 400 for the title (34px, #2A2522, sentence case, stating the finding) and the hero value at the final point (24px, #8B1E2D).
- Libre Franklin for everything else: eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase, 2.6px letter-spacing, #8B1E2D, e.g. "PRODUCER'S REPORT | <SHOW NAME>"; subtitle 15px 400 #7A726A with measure, unit, period and a total; axis labels 12px #7A726A; annotations 13px italic #2A2522 with a 10.5px regular #7A726A second line ("Wk 16 | $1.09M"); panel labels 10px 600 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; source and footnote 11.5px (footnote italic).

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 52, title baseline at y 94, subtitle at y 122, then a full-width 1.2px #2A2522 rule at y 142.
- Main panel from x 96 to 892, y 176 to 404. Below it, a slim inset panel (y 446 to 500) for a second measure, headed by a small uppercase gray label. The two panels share the x axis; the week axis sits under the inset with a 1px ink baseline and 5px ticks.
- Footer: a 1px #E3DDD1 rule at y 552, "Source: ..." left and a short italic footnote right at y 574.

Axes and grid:
- Main panel: 1px #E3DDD1 horizontal gridlines at round values, right-aligned labels 12px left of the plot ("$1.2M"). No vertical gridlines, no y-axis line.
- Inset panel: only two dotted (2 on, 3 off) gridlines with their labels (e.g. 70% and 100%).
- Never put a second measure on a right-hand axis: it always goes in the inset panel with its own scale, or as labeled values.
- Shade a pre-launch period (previews) with a #F1EADC band that extends 24px above the plot, labeled "PREVIEWS" in 9.5px 600 uppercase gray above the top gridline.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series is a 4px #8B1E2D line with straight segments and round joins, over a #8B1E2D area at 6% opacity down to the panel floor. No markers except annotated points (r 4.5, ivory fill, 2px red ring) and the final point (r 6.5 solid red with a 2px ivory ring). The inset line is 1.6px #8C8A85 with a 3px dot and a bold gray value label at the end.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered #8B1E2D bars (about 55% of the band) starting at zero, with the same hanging annotations on key bars and the final bar's value in DM Serif Display 24px red above it. A second measure goes in the gray inset panel as a thin line or small dots, never a second axis.

Labels and annotation:
- Key moments (opening, reviews, a cast change, a closing notice) hang from the line: a 0.8px ink stem 8px off the point, 36 to 64px long, going below the line where there is room and above where the line is low, then the italic label and a small "Wk N | value" line. Center labels on the stem, or end-anchor them when the line rises to the right.
- The final point carries the hero value to its upper left and an italic "Final week" under it.

Avoid: a right-hand axis, legends (label directly), markers on every point, gradients, shadows, bright colors besides the one red, and more than four or five annotations.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no annotation text touches the line or another label, the previews label sits above the top gridline, the claims in the title and subtitle total match the data, and there is no right-hand axis.
