Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cooler Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a food safety temperature log sheet clipped to a steel clipboard in a restaurant kitchen. Pre-printed form structure, filled in by hand in blue ballpoint. Practical, credible, inspection-ready.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Clipboard backing: #DCE1E4 (pale steel gray) across the whole canvas, with about 40 faint horizontal white streaks (0.8px, 8 to 20% opacity) for a brushed look.
- Sheet: #FFFFFF, inset about 36px, with a soft drop shadow (dy 3, blur 4, #5B666E at 35%).
- Printed form ink: #22272B. Secondary printed text: #5A636A. Minor grid lines #C9D0D5, major grid lines #AEB7BD, column rules #9AA4AB.
- Safe band fill: #DFF1E1, with its boundary line and label in #2F6B3A.
- Danger band fill: #F9DEDC, with its boundary line and label in #A5312A.
- Handwriting and the data line: #1F3F9A (blue ballpoint).
- Clip: a 196 x 46 rounded (rx 10) metal clip centered at the top edge, vertical gradient #C9D0D5 to #9AA4AB to #7E8990, a darker #6F7A81 slot.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo for everything printed: a form label 12px 800 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing ("WALK-IN COOLER TEMPERATURE LOG"), a form number right-aligned 11px 600; the title 25px 700 in #22272B stating the finding; subtitle 14px 400 #5A636A with measure, unit and check times; field labels 9.5px 600 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; axis labels 12px 500; day headers 11px 700 uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; band labels 10px 700 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing.
- Nanum Pen Script for everything handwritten: field values 25px, daily initials 26px, the circled value 24px, the corrective action note 20px, all in #1F3F9A.

Layout:
- Header block: form label, title, subtitle, then a row of four form fields (UNIT, LOCATION, WEEK OF, CHECKED BY), each a small label above a 0.8px #22272B underline with the handwritten value sitting on it.
- The chart is a boxed form table (1px #22272B border) from about x 104 to 892: the plot area above, then a row of day names and a row of handwritten initials, each row about 26px tall, with rows labeled "DAY" and "INIT." outside the box on the left.
- Footer: "Source: illustrative data" 11px on the left, a small uppercase retention note on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Printed hairlines every 1 unit (0.5px #C9D0D5) with every second line heavier (0.8px #AEB7BD) and labeled on the left ("4°").
- Vertical rules (0.8px #9AA4AB) divide the plot into one column per day; checks sit at even sub-positions within each column. Stop the interior day rules at the danger boundary so the danger band stays clean paper behind its label and the handwritten note.
- Safe and danger bands are shaded behind the grid, each bounded by a 1.2px line in its label color, with a small uppercase label inside the band at the left ("SAFE 0–5 °C", "DANGER ABOVE 8 °C: ACT AND RECORD").

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.8px #1F3F9A ballpoint line with round joins, drawn as slightly wobbly quadratic segments (midpoints jittered by up to 0.8px) plus a faint second pass (1px, 35% opacity, offset 0.6px) for an ink feel. Every reading gets a hand-drawn x mark (two crossing 1.6px strokes, 8.4px across). Circle the one out-of-range reading with a loose hand-drawn ellipse (about 48 x 34px, slightly rotated, overlapping at the end), write its value beside it, and draw a curved arrow to a short handwritten corrective action note, wrapped to three lines so it stays inside the plot frame.
- Bar chart: columns filled with light blue ballpoint hatching (#1F3F9A diagonal strokes at 45 degrees, 1px, about 4px apart) with a 1.4px ballpoint outline and a handwritten value above each; any bar reaching the danger band is circled and annotated the same way.

Avoid: typeset data labels (anything written on the form is handwritten), smooth vector curves for the data, saturated fills, drop shadows other than the sheet's, and more than one ink color for handwriting.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the handwritten note stays inside the form box, the band boundaries match their labels, every reading has an x mark, and the title's claim about the safe range is arithmetically true.
