Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Wool Winter" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the winter catalogue of a mountain knitwear cooperative. Deep indigo like dyed wool, a red and white star border like a sweater yoke, and the data line worked in knitted V stitches.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #16203A (deep indigo).
- Line (stitches), title and highlighted labels: #F4F1EA (wool white).
- Border band and point markers: #C8323C (yarn red).
- Winter-month bands: #1F2B4B. Gridlines: #2A3656. Secondary text: #8C95AF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display for the title (700, 36px, wool white, stating the finding) and the italic footer note (15px, #8C95AF).
- Mulish for everything else: subtitle 16px #8C95AF; axis labels 13px; month labels 13.5px 600 (winter months in wool white, the rest #8C95AF); band labels 11px 800 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; value labels 16px 800 wool white; source 12px.

Layout:
- Yoke border across the full width at the top: a 48px red band (y 14 to 62) filled with white pixel motifs drawn from 4px squares, alternating a 9 x 9 eight-point star and a 5 x 5 diamond cross, repeating every 60px. Above it a row of 4px white squares every 8px (y 6), below it a row of 4px red squares every 8px (y 66).
- Title baseline at y 124, subtitle at 154. Plot from x 110 to 880, y 200 to a baseline at 486. Month labels 26px below the baseline. Source bottom left at y 566, italic note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines 1px #2A3656 dotted (1 on, 5 off, round caps). Y labels right-aligned in #8C95AF with thousands separators. 1px #8C95AF baseline.
- Winter months (Dec, Jan, Feb) sit on #1F2B4B bands that run from y 190 to the baseline, labeled "WINTER" near the bottom of the band.

Marks:
- Line chart: do not draw a normal stroke. Walk the polyline and place a V-shaped stitch every 10px: a chevron "M-4 -4.5 L0 3.5 L4 -4.5" rotated to the local segment direction, stroked 2.4px wool white with round caps and joins. At each data point, a red dot (r 4.6) with a 2px indigo ring. Label the peak above its point and the low point above its dot.
- Bar chart: bars filled with a knit texture: columns of the same wool-white V stitches (10px gauge) on a #2A3656 bar, the highlighted bar in yarn red with white stitches; square tops, zero baseline. Same yoke border, fonts and winter bands.

Avoid: smooth plain lines, gradients, glows, snowflake clip art, more than two accent colors, dense gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stitches read as knitted Vs (not a wavy line) at thumbnail size, the yoke pattern repeats cleanly to both edges, the winter bands are visible but faint, and the title's ratio is true for the data.
