Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Wireline Tracks" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed wireline log from a well file. Technical, dense but orderly: boxed track headers with scale ranges, fine engineering grid, curves drawn with a draftsman's restraint. Depth runs down the page, values run across.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Sheet: #FFFFFF. Frames, headers text and ink: #1A1A1A. Secondary text: #6B6B6B.
- Series: #3C8A3C (gamma green, solid), #111111 (resistivity black, solid), #2F5DA8 (porosity blue, dashed). Each series lives in its own track, so color plus track position plus dash pattern identify it.
- Highlight fill: #F3D55B (sand yellow) for intervals that pass a cutoff.
- Grid: minor #E6E6E6, major #BDBDBD.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sometype Mono everywhere. Title 700 23px with -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding. Subtitle 400 13px #6B6B6B naming the measures and units. Track header names 700 13px uppercase with 0.6px letter-spacing; header unit lines 11px #6B6B6B; scale end values 500 12px in the series color; depth labels 500 12px with thousands separators; interval letters 700 17px; tags 700 11px; footer 11px.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. Title at y 46, subtitle at y 72.
- A row of boxed track headers (1px #1A1A1A frames, 82px tall) directly above the matching track frames, which run from y 186 to y 548.
- Track order left to right: track 1 (260px wide), a narrow central index column (80px) that holds the shared vertical axis labels, then tracks 2 and 3 (270px each). All tracks share the vertical axis.
- Each header: name centered at the top, unit line under it, a 2px sample of the curve (same color and dash) spanning the header 10px in from each side, and the scale minimum under its left end and maximum under its right end in the series color.
- Footer at y 575: a 14 x 9 yellow swatch with a key on the left, well name and "Source: illustrative data" right-aligned.

Axes and grid:
- The index variable runs downward (top of the range at the top). Horizontal grid every 10 units (0.6px #E6E6E6) and every 50 (0.9px #BDBDBD) in every track. Index column: 5px ticks every 10 and 10px ticks every 50 from both edges, labels only at the 50s, centered.
- Track 1 and 3 vertical grid every tenth of the scale (0.6px #E6E6E6). A log-scale track gets log grid: 0.5px minors at 2 to 9 in each decade and 0.9px #BDBDBD decade lines.
- A reversed scale (high on the left) is fine for a track when that is the convention; say so in the header unit line.

Marks:
- Line chart: each series is a 1.4 to 1.6px line in its own track, clipped to the track frame, stroke-linejoin round, no smoothing so the texture of the data shows. The third series is dashed 6 3. Where series 1 falls below a cutoff, fill between the curve and a dashed 0.9px #1A1A1A cutoff line (3 3) with #F3D55B, label the cutoff in 10px text beside the line, and letter each filled interval (A, B, C) in 17px bold just left of the cutoff. Mark the same intervals as 4px yellow ticks in the index column. Classify intervals with small tags at the right edge of a track: filled #1A1A1A with white text for a positive result, outlined white with ink text for a negative one.
- Bar chart: horizontal bars growing from the left edge of the tracks, one track per measure, rows aligned to the shared vertical axis in the central column. Bars 1px #1A1A1A outline over a solid series-color fill at 85% opacity, square corners, 60% of the row height; bars that pass a cutoff get #F3D55B behind the value label. Keep the boxed headers with scale ranges.

Avoid: rounded corners, drop shadows, gradients, a legend outside the track headers, smoothing of the curves, proportional fonts, color fills other than the sand yellow.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every header's scale matches its track, the cutoff fill appears only where the curve is below the cutoff, and no label sits on top of a curve.
