Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Wine List" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the printed wine list of a quiet, serious wine bar. An ivory card with a burgundy border, centered classical typography, and every row reading like a menu line with a dotted leader running to its bar.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Card: #F8F3EA (ivory) for the whole canvas.
- Border and accents: #6D1F2F (deep burgundy) for the double border, eyebrow, fleuron, section headings and their rules. It is also the bar color for reds.
- Category bar colors: #6D1F2F for reds, #C98B8B (dusty rose) for rosés, #D9C57A (pale straw) for whites. Straw bars get a 0.8px #B9A456 outline so they hold on the ivory.
- Main ink: #2E2224 for the title, row names and values. Secondary: #86767A for italic notes, section totals and leader dots.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sorts Mill Goudy only, regular and italic. Use old-style figures for every number (font-variant-numeric: oldstyle-nums proportional-nums).
- Eyebrow: 14px regular uppercase, 4px letter-spacing, burgundy, centered. Title: 36px regular #2E2224, centered, stating the finding. Subtitle: 18px italic #86767A, centered.
- Section headings: 13.5px uppercase with 3.5px letter-spacing (small caps feel), burgundy. Section totals: 14px italic #86767A, right-aligned ("1,160 bottles").
- Row names: 18px regular #2E2224, followed 10px later by an italic 14.5px #86767A note (region or detail). Values: 18px regular #2E2224.

Layout:
- Border inset: a 1.5px burgundy rectangle 18px from each edge and a 0.6px burgundy rectangle 24px from each edge.
- Centered header: eyebrow at y 62, title at y 102, subtitle at y 130, then a small fleuron at y 150: a burgundy dot (r 3) flanked by two mirrored leaf shapes (26px long, 9px tall, with a curled 1.2px stem), and 66px hairline rules (0.6px burgundy) on each side.
- Rows start at x 92. Bars start at x 468 and scale to a maximum of 330px. Section heading every group, then its rows at 28px pitch, with 18px extra space before the next section.
- Footer: "Source: illustrative data · <total> in all" centered in 14px italic #86767A at y 556.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, no gridlines, no tick labels. Each section heading carries a 0.6px burgundy rule running from after the heading word to about 100px short of the right edge, where the section total sits.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars, 12px tall, square ends, colored by category. A dotted leader (1.4px #86767A dots, dasharray 0.1 5, round caps) runs from just after the row's text to 10px before the bar, like the leader between a dish and its price. Give the row text a 10px ivory halo (stroke #F8F3EA, paint-order stroke) so the leader stops cleanly at the words. The value sits 10px after the bar end in old-style figures.
- Line chart: thin 1.5px lines in the category colors (burgundy, dusty rose, and straw drawn over a 3px #B9A456 underlay so it holds on ivory), small ivory-filled circles (r 3.5) with a 1.2px line-colored ring at each point, and the series name set at the line's right end in 18px Sorts Mill Goudy with its italic note beside it. Use a dotted leader from the last point to its label if they sit apart. Keep the same centered header, border and fleuron, and use faint 0.6px burgundy hairlines at 30% opacity for the only gridlines.

Avoid: sans-serif type, lining figures, heavy gridlines, rounded bars, gradients, shadows, a separate legend box, and any color not listed above.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the border is evenly inset, the header block and fleuron are optically centered, the leader dots never touch the words, the numbers show old-style figures, and section totals add up.
