Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Weathering Rate" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a masonry condition survey for a historic house, set on dark basalt. Small multiples in pale stone, one worst case picked out in rust, an elegant old-style serif for panel titles over a clean geometric sans. Sober, comparative and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1F1F22 (dark basalt). Panel fill: #26262A with 2px corner radius.
- Ordinary series: #CFC7B8 (pale stone). The single worst or most important series: #C5673E (rust), with a 12% rust fill under its line.
- Title text: #EFEAE0. Secondary text and axis labels: #8E887E. Source: #6E6961. Gridlines: #34343A. Zero line: #55555C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant 600: main title 34px #EFEAE0 stating the finding; panel titles 21px (#EFEAE0, rust for the highlighted panel).
- Mulish for everything else: eyebrow 11px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #8E887E; subtitle 14px 400 with measure, unit and period; axis labels 11.5px; end-value labels 14px 800 in the series color; compass letters 10.5px 800; caption 12px; source 11px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 50, title y 90, subtitle y 118.
- A 2 x 2 grid of panels from x 92 to 904 with a 40px gutter, rows starting at y 146 and y 338. Each panel has a 34px title band and a 132px plot, with 12px inner padding on the left and 44px on the right for the end label.
- In the top right corner of each panel, a tiny compass roundel: a 10px-radius circle (0.9px stroke) holding the orientation letter (N, E, S, W); rust for the highlighted panel, #8E887E otherwise.
- One shared caption at the bottom: a 1px #34343A rule at y 548, a one-line explanatory caption at y 572 and the source at y 589. No per-panel captions or legends.

Axes and grid:
- Shared scales across every panel. Horizontal 1px #34343A gridlines at a few round values; a #55555C zero line. Y labels only on the left column, x labels (decades) only under the bottom row, 11.5px #8E887E. No axis lines otherwise.

Marks:
- Line chart: each panel draws its own series as a 1.8px pale stone line (2.6px rust for the highlighted one) with round joins, 1.9px-radius dots at each observation and a 3.6px end dot with a 1.5px panel-colored ring, plus the end value to its right. The other series appear in every panel as 1.2px pale stone ghosts at 16% opacity.
- Bar chart: each panel holds slender square-cornered pale stone columns (about 45% of the band) from a zero baseline, the highlighted panel's columns in rust; the other panels' values shown as thin 1.2px pale stone ticks at 16% opacity across each column slot for comparison. Label the last column's value.

Avoid: a separate legend, different y-scales per panel, bright colors besides the one rust highlight, heavy panel borders, and glows.

When you're done, render the chart and check that all panels share identical axes, only one panel is rust, the compass letters don't touch the panel titles, and the headline ratio is arithmetically true.
