Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Waveform" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the arrange window of a digital audio workstation. A dark, quiet timeline with named clip regions laid behind the data, a faint waveform, a timecode ruler and a playhead. Technical and calm, with one bright cyan line carrying the story.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1A1D22. Ruler strip and timecode box: #14161A. Gridlines and box outlines: #2A2F37.
- Primary series: #38C6E0 (cyan). Secondary series: #2B8290 (dim teal).
- Region colors: #9A6B55 (clay), #6F8A6A (sage), #5C6B80 (slate). Clip bodies at 14% opacity, clip header strips at 75%.
- Text: #E8ECF1. Secondary text: #8A93A0. The target line and playhead use #E8ECF1.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Inter for the title (600, 24px, #E8ECF1, stating the finding), subtitle (14px #8A93A0), legend (13px; the primary entry 600 in #E8ECF1) and clip names (600, 11px, #E8ECF1 on the header strips).
- JetBrains Mono for all numbers: ruler timecodes 10.5px, axis values 11px, the big timecode readout 500 16px in a 174 x 30 px box (rx 4) at the top right, and the end value 700 13px in cyan. Use a true minus sign (U+2212) for negative values.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. Title at y 46, subtitle y 72, a one-line legend at y 104 (26px line swatches: 4px cyan, 1.6px teal, 1.2px dashed target).
- A 26px ruler strip across the plot width at y 124 with minute ticks (major every 5 minutes, 14px tall, labeled "05:00"; minor 7px at 50% opacity).
- Clip regions span the plot below the ruler, each with an 18px header strip carrying its name (rx 3, 2px gaps between clips). Clips too narrow for a name get their label in the region color under the plot.
- Plot from x 76 to 852, y 176 to 500; y labels right-aligned 10px left of it, the unit ("LUFS") under them. Footer rule at y 540, source at y 566 with a small monospace technical summary at right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #2A2F37, at even steps. No axis lines.
- A target or reference line as a 1.2px #E8ECF1 dashed line (6 on, 5 off) at 70% opacity, labeled at its right end in mono.

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary series as a thick 3.5px cyan line with round caps and joins and a 4.5px dot at its end, labeled with its final value in mono 700 13px cyan. The secondary, noisier series as a 1.4px dim teal line drawn underneath. Behind both, a faint mirrored waveform envelope: a jagged filled shape symmetric about the plot's middle, #E8ECF1 at 7% opacity, amplitude following the region's level.
- Bar chart: draw each bar as a clip-like block (rx 3) rising from the baseline, body in the category's region color at 55% opacity with a solid 18px header strip carrying the name, and the value in mono above; the highlighted bar in solid cyan.

Labels and annotation:
- A white playhead: 1.5px #E8ECF1 vertical line from the ruler to the bottom of the plot, capped in the ruler by a small pentagon marker (14px wide, pointing down). Put it where it doesn't sit on a ruler label, and match the timecode readout to it.
- Short mono annotations (like "-12.6 avg") directly over the region they describe.

Avoid: glows, gradients on lines, bright region fills, rainbow colors, sans-serif numbers, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that clip labels fit their headers, the playhead and its cap clear the ruler labels, the waveform stays faint behind the lines, and the title's number matches the data.
