Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Watchmaker" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the dial of a fine mechanical watch turned into a production ledger. Midnight blue with a fine guilloche sunburst, polished steel batons, glowing lume, a railway-track minute scale and a small subdial.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F1B3D (midnight blue), lit by a radial gradient centered below the bottom edge (#20336B at the center, #0F1B3D at 55%, #0A1330 at the edge).
- Polished steel: #C9CED6 for the marks' base color, the scale, the subdial and the labels. Lit facet gradient #F4F6F9 to #AEB5C1; shaded facet gradient #7D8595 to #4A5264.
- Lume: #B8F0A0 (gradient from #D6FAC4 at the top) for the lume blocks, the record value, the highlighted category and the subdial total.
- Slate: #7F8BAA for the subtitle, y labels and source. Grid: #26335C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant Garamond italic 500 for the maker's name (30px, steel) above the title and for the source line (15px).
- Marcellus for everything else: title 27px #EEF1F6 stating the finding; the calibre line under it 12px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in slate; y labels 12px; category labels 13px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; values 13.5px steel, the record value 17px lume; subdial numerals 11px; subdial total 24px lume.

Texture:
- Guilloche sunburst: rays every 0.6 degrees across the upper half-plane from a point 90px below the bottom center, drawn as 0.6px white lines at 4.5% opacity. It should read as engraved texture, not stripes.

Layout:
- Maker's name at y 62, title at y 104, calibre line at y 132, all left-aligned at x 48.
- Subdial at upper right (center 846, 96; radius 60): a 1.6px steel bezel 5px outside the dial, a recessed dial (radial gradient #1B2A57 to #0B1431), 60 minute ticks (every fifth longer and 1.4px), three numerals, a tiny "× 100" unit, and a slim 1.8px steel hand with a short counterweight tail, a small glowing lume dot and a steel center cap. The hand points to the total on the dial's scale; the total and a tracked caption sit to the left of the subdial.
- Plot about x 96 to 904, y 196 to 470.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #26335C; y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot.
- The x-axis is a railway-track minute scale 8 to 18px below the baseline: two parallel 0.8px steel lines joined by fine ticks (five per category), with a solid 4px steel bar at each category center. Category labels 24px below the track.

Effects:
- Lume glow: a 3.5px Gaussian blur merged under the element, used on the record bar's lume block and on the subdial hand's lume dot only.

Marks:
- Bar chart: slim 22px faceted steel batons. Split each bar down its center: the left half uses the lit gradient, the right half the shaded gradient, and the top is a shallow chamfer rising 4px to a ridge at the center. A lume block (10 x 22 px, 1px radius) is inset 8px below the tip. Values 10px above the tip; the record month's value and category label in lume.
- Line chart: a 2px steel line with small baton markers at each point (a 4 x 14 px faceted steel rectangle with a lume core), the record point's marker glowing, over the same railway-track x-axis and the same subdial.

Avoid: warm colors, flat gray bars, thick outlines, heavy glows on every mark, sans-serif type and a legend box (one series needs none).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the lit side of every baton is on the same side, the subdial hand points to the right total, the sunburst stays subtle behind the bars, and nothing overlaps the subdial.
