Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Walnut and Brass" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a furniture workshop's heritage board. Satin-finished walnut with brushed brass inlaid flush into it, small engraved plaques screwed on beside each row. Warm, crafted and quietly proud.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Walnut: #3B2618 for the whole canvas, with long grain strands in #26170D and #553722 and a satin radial sheen (warm #FFE9C8 at 9% near the top left, fading to black at 22% at the far corners).
- Brushed brass: #C2A060, the primary series and the title color.
- Aged brass: #8D7440, the second series.
- Groove around every inlay: #1C110A.
- Cream #E3D3B0 for subtitle, legend labels, value labels, axis numbers and the footer. Engraved lettering on plaques: #3A2A14.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Gloock for the title (36px, brass, stating the finding) and all plaque lettering: year plaques 15px with 1.5px letter-spacing, the total plaque's caption 12px with 2.4px letter-spacing and its figure 40px.
- Cormorant Garamond with lining figures for small figures and text: subtitle 19px italic, legend labels 16px 600, value labels 18px 600 (the latest 21px 700 in brass), axis numbers 14px 600 at 80% opacity, footer 15px italic.

Texture:
- Grain: about 150 long horizontal strands across the full width, each a gently wandering sine path (amplitude 2 to 11px), 0.5 to 2.7px wide, 25 to 65% opacity, 60% dark and 40% light.
- Brushed metal: every brass surface gets a 240 x 6 repeating pattern of fine horizontal lines (0.35 to 0.4px, #FFF3D0 and #5A4520 at 30 to 35%) plus a vertical bevel gradient (white 28% at the top, clear at 45%, black 22% at the bottom).

Layout:
- Title baseline at y 76 from x 52, subtitle at 108, legend at 139 (two 27 x 10 inlay samples with labels).
- Total plaque at top right: 170 x 92 at (742, 34), 8px radius, with four screws.
- Rows from y 176 at a 36px pitch. Year plaques 90 x 24 at x 52 (5px radius) with a screw 9px in from each end. Bars start at x 164 and scale to x 830. Axis numbers under the last row; footer at y 572 with the source at left and a growth note at right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Faint vertical guides at round values: 0.6px brass dotted (1 5) at 40% opacity. Numbers centered under the guides.

Marks:
- Bar chart (horizontal): each bar is a 16px tall inlaid strip. First cut the groove: a #1C110A rectangle 1px larger on every side. Then set the brass flush inside it with the brushed pattern and bevel gradient. For stacked series, butt the segments together with a 1.2px groove gap between them. Value at the end of each bar, 12px past it.
- Plaques: rounded brass plates with a diagonal gradient #D9BC7C to #C2A060 to #A4854A, a 0.8px #E8D39C inner highlight at 60%, and a drop shadow (dy 1.6, blur 1.4, #0E0804 at 70%) so they sit proud of the wood. Screws: radial gradient #F2E0B0 to #8A7038, a 0.6px #5E4A22 rim and a slot line across them at a slight angle.
- Line chart: an inlaid brass line: a 5px #1C110A groove stroke with a 3px brass stroke inside it, square markers (8px) as small brass plates, the second series in aged brass. Year plaques then sit along the bottom axis instead of the left.

Avoid: bright yellow gold, chrome or silver, glossy highlights, rounded bar ends, gridlines drawn over the brass, and sans-serif type.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the grain reads as walnut without overpowering the bars, both brass tones stay distinguishable at thumbnail size, every plaque's lettering is legible and centered between its screws, and the title's multiple matches the data.
