Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Vocab Mastery" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a flashcard deck lying on a warm desk. Soft, friendly and orderly, with colors that ripen from pale peach (new) to deep teal (mastered).

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk background: #FFFBF2 (cream). Top card: #FFFFFF. Two cards fanned behind it: #FFF6E6 and #FFF9EF with 1.5px #EFE3CF strokes.
- Ordered series from first stage to last: #FED7AA (new, pale peach), #FB7185 (learning, coral), #7DD3FC (reviewing, sky), #0F766E (mastered, deep teal).
- Value text in darker partners for legibility: #C2410C (peach), #BE123C (coral), #0369A1 (sky), #0F766E (teal).
- Ink #2B2A33, muted text #7A7280, gridlines #F1ECE2, baseline #D8CFBF, folded corner #F4ECDD.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fredoka 600, 32px, #2B2A33 for the title, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Nunito for everything else: an eyebrow 800 12px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in teal, preceded by a 10px teal rounded square; subtitle 600 15px muted; axis labels 700 13px muted; bar totals 800 13px ink; legend names 700 14px ink and values 800 14px in the darker partner color; footer 600 and 700 12px muted.

Layout:
- The card spans x 48 to 912 and y 34 to 560 with 20px corner radius, a soft drop shadow (dy 8, blur 12, #7C5E3C at 16%) and the top right corner cut 42px on the diagonal. Draw the fold as a #F4ECDD triangle with its own small shadow (dx -2, dy 3, blur 2.5, 22%).
- Behind it, two identical cards rotated -1.6 and +1.1 degrees so their edges peek out.
- Inside the card: eyebrow at y 76, title at 118, subtitle at 146, all at x 88. Plot from x 136 to 716 and y 190 to 488. Direct labels in the column to the right of the last bar. A dashed rule (4 on, 5 off) at y 528 and footer text at 548.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines except a 1.5px #D8CFBF baseline. Three or four horizontal 1.5px #F1ECE2 gridlines, value labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot, the unit ("words") above the top label.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked vertical bars 36px wide, first stage at the bottom. A 2px white gap between segments; only the top segment is rounded (8px top corners). A total above each bar, 9px up.
- Line chart: one smooth 3px line per stage in the same colors (or a stacked area with 2px white seams between bands), with an 8px dot at the last point, and the same direct labels at the right end.

Labels and annotation:
- Direct labels at the last bar: a 12px rounded swatch (radius 3.5), the stage name and its value right-aligned 172px further right, each label vertically centered on its segment and pushed apart to at least 22px.

Avoid: a separate boxed legend, gridlines darker than the cream, pure black text, harsh shadows, and changing the stage order or colors between bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the deck edges peek out on both sides, the fold reads as a turned corner, the pale peach segments remain visible against white, and the totals equal the sum of their segments.
