Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Vitrine" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an object lit inside a museum display case at night. Near-black interior, a warm spotlight pooling behind the chart, one brass line in smoky amber bands, paper object tags on threads and an engraved brass plaque.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Case interior: #111214 for the canvas, with a radial spotlight on top (center at 50% x, 46% y, radius 62%) from #2E2A22 through #1A1918 at 55% to #111214.
- Data line: #C9A45C (warm brass). Uncertainty bands: #B9832F (smoky amber) at 0.26 opacity for the inner band and 0.18 for the outer band.
- Text: #D8D2C4 for titles and legend, #8A857B for axis labels and subtitle. Gridlines #26272A; baseline #4A4740.
- Object tags: #E9E2D0 paper with #1B1A17 and #3E3A33 text; threads #BDB6A6 at 0.7px, 0.8 opacity.
- Plaque: vertical gradient #D9B872 to #C9A45C to #9E7D3E, an inset 0.8px #7A5F2C border, #8C6D33 screw dots, engraved text #3A2C14 with a 1px lower #E8CF95 highlight copy.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus for the title in spaced capitals (24px, 3.4px letter-spacing, #D8D2C4, stating the finding) and the plaque heading (14px, 2px letter-spacing).
- IBM Plex Sans for everything else: subtitle 13px, legend 11.5px, axis values 11.5px, axis titles 10px 500 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing, tag text 11px (first line 600).

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title at y 66, subtitle below, a one-line legend at the top right of the plot area. Plot from x 116 to 880 and y 150 to 438.
- A brass plaque (520 x 56, 3px radius) centered below the plot at y 512 holding the dataset name in engraved capitals and a line with the method and "Source: illustrative data".
- A glass reflection over the upper-left corner: a triangle from the corner 230px along each edge filled with a white gradient from 0.06 to 0 opacity, plus a thin parallel streak (28px wide) at 0.025 opacity.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #26272A gridlines only, y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, the unit as a small uppercase label above them. A 1px #4A4740 baseline, x labels 22px below it, the x-axis title right-aligned under the labels.

Marks:
- Line chart: the central estimate as a 2.2px brass monotone-smooth line with a soft glow (Gaussian blur 3.5 merged under the line; filter region userSpaceOnUse covering the whole canvas). Two nested bands (68% and 95%) as smooth filled areas in amber at the opacities above, no outlines.
- Bar chart: slim brass bars (about 40% of the band) with 2px top corners, each with an amber error range drawn as a translucent 0.26 amber box twice the bar width behind the bar top, and the same glow at lower strength (blur 2).
- Object tags: mark up to three notable points with a 4.5px case-colored circle ringed 1.6px in brass, and a 156 x 40 paper tag (one clipped corner, a small punched hole) connected by a gently curving thread. Tags sit in empty space and never cover the bands.

Avoid: bright whites, cool colors, hard drop shadows, heavy gridlines, square legends in boxes, and letting the glass reflection cover data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped, the tags do not overlap the bands or each other, the plaque text fits inside its border with clear margins, and the title's claim matches the data.
