Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Visitor Flow" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a bright science-museum floor plan. Clean white walls, wayfinding signage in primary colors, friendly and orderly, easy to read from across a hall.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #FFFFFF.
- Series 1: #EAB308 (sunshine yellow), series 2: #2563EB (electric blue), series 3: #EF4444 (tomato). Use them in this order.
- Yellow direct-label text: #8A6A04 (the yellow itself is too light for text on white). Tomato label text: #D12B2B. Blue label text uses #2563EB.
- Ink (title, baseline, markers): #16181D. Secondary text: #626873. Gridlines: #E8EAEE. Guide lines: #C9CDD4. Marker strip fill: #F3F4F6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Red Hat Display for the title (800, 29px, -0.4px letter-spacing, sentence case, stating the finding), wayfinding tab names (700, 14px, uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing), series letters (800) and direct labels (700, 14px).
- Red Hat Text for the subtitle (400, 15px, #626873), axis labels (12px) and marker-strip times (600, 12px), source and notes (12px).

Layout:
- Wayfinding tabs hang from the very top edge, one per series, starting at x 48: 214 x 46px, square top, 8px rounded bottom corners, 10px apart, filled with the series color. Each holds a 12px-radius outlined circle with the series letter (A, B, C), the name in uppercase and a right arrow at the right end. Text is #1A1A1A on yellow, white on blue and tomato. The tabs are the legend.
- A small "LEVEL 2" style tag at the top right (700, 12px, 2.4px letter-spacing, #626873).
- Title baseline at y 100, subtitle at 128, 48px left margin.
- Plot from x 88 to 800, y 162 to 470; the right 110px holds direct labels.
- An event strip under the x axis: a 28px-tall #F3F4F6 rounded (4px) bar across the plot width at y 508 with a label ("Dome shows") to its right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at round values, 1px #E8EAEE; the zero line is a 1.2px #16181D baseline. Y labels 12px #626873 right-aligned 12px left of the plot, no y axis line.
- X ticks: 5px #16181D ticks below the baseline with labels 22px below.
- Event times shown as 1px #C9CDD4 dashed (2 on, 4 off) vertical guides through the full plot height.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.6px lines, monotone-smoothed, round caps and joins, no area fill, no dots except highlighted peaks: 4.5px white circles with a 2.4px series-colored ring and the value 12px above in Red Hat Display 800 14px in the series color. Direct labels at the right end: a 22 x 18 rounded (3px) chip in the series color holding the letter, then the name in the label color.
- Bar chart: slim bars (about 45% of the band) in the series colors, square corners, grouped with 3px gaps; letter chips above each group's first bar replace a legend; the same wayfinding tabs across the top.
- Event markers: small solid #16181D half-dome shapes (9px radius semicircle on a 22 x 2.2px base) at each event time in the strip, with the time to the right in Red Hat Text 600 12px.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, dark backgrounds, a boxed legend (the tabs are the legend), thick lines, pastel versions of the colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the tabs read as signage at thumbnail size, yellow text never sits on white in #EAB308, direct labels do not collide, and the title's numbers match the data.
