Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Venetian Stripe" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1980s consumer electronics brand. A sunset gradient sliced into horizontal slats like venetian blinds, heavy grotesque headline, clean geometric labels on pale warm gray.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EEEBE6.
- Sunset ramp: gold #F2B43C, coral #EE6A4D, deep magenta #A8175A (blend linearly gold to coral to magenta).
- Ink #3A1F33 for the title, value labels and baseline; muted #786B70 for secondary text; gridlines #D8D2CA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo Black for the title (34px, sentence case, stating the finding), the brand line in the header (15px, all caps, 5px letter-spacing, white) and value labels (15px; 20px magenta for the latest period).
- Raleway with lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums, it defaults to oldstyle) for the subtitle (16px 500), axis labels (13px 500), category labels (14px 600; 800 ink for the latest), source (12px) and folio (11px 700 caps, 2px letter-spacing).

Layout:
- Header band from y 0 to 132 across the full width: a vertical gradient gold at the top, coral in the middle, magenta at the bottom, sliced into slats that start 2px tall and grow 2.2px thicker each step toward the bottom, with constant 3px page-colored gaps.
- Title baseline at y 184, subtitle at 212, plot from y 262 to 504 with 56px side margins. A small tri-color footer rule (three 40 x 3 px segments gold, coral, magenta), then source left and folio right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #D8D2CA gridlines at round values, labels right-aligned left of the plot. A 1.5px ink baseline. No vertical axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square bars about 58% of the band, split into equal horizontal slices about 11px tall with 3px page-colored gaps (divide each bar into a whole number of slices so none ends in a sliver). Color each slice by its height on the value axis, gold at zero stepping through coral to magenta at the maximum, so taller bars reach magenta. Values in Archivo Black 10px above each bar. Bars start at zero.
- Line chart: a 4px line stroked with the same vertical sunset gradient (by value: gold low, magenta high), above an area fill made of horizontal slats (3px gaps) in the gradient at 35% opacity. Square 9px markers in ink; label the last value.

Avoid: rounded corners, shadows, glows, diagonal stripes and extra hues outside the sunset ramp.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the header slats visibly thicken toward the bottom, every bar is sliced evenly with no sliver at the top, and all numerals are lining.
