Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Train Velocity" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a night-shift network operations board. Deep oxide brown, one glowing amber line doing the talking, a quiet cream ghost of last year and a strip of railroad ties along the bottom edge.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1F1612 (deep oxide brown).
- Current series: #F59E0B (amber). Prior-period series: #EDE0C8 (cream).
- Secondary text: #A89582. Gridlines: #3A2C24. Track ties: #3B2B22. Rails: #5E4A3C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Display 800 44px for the title in #EDE0C8, sentence case, stating the finding with its numbers.
- Barlow for everything else: eyebrow 600 12.5px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in amber; subtitle 400 16px #A89582; legend 600 14px cream; axis labels 500 14px; month and event labels 600 11 to 12.5px uppercase with 1.2 to 1.6px letter-spacing; footer 400 to 600 12 to 12.5px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow at the top, title, subtitle; the legend sits right-aligned on the subtitle baseline: a 28px 4px-thick amber stroke "2025", a 28px dashed cream stroke "2024", and an amber triangle "Plan".
- Plot from x 76 to 900 and y 184 to 470.
- Footer text at about y 530, then the track strip: ties 12px wide every 24px from y 548 to the bottom edge, with two 4px rails at y 556 and 584 running the full width.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #3A2C24 gridlines every 2 units; y labels 500 14px #A89582 with a small "MPH" unit label above. No vertical gridlines.
- A 1.2px #A89582 baseline; month labels centered under the axis in 600 12.5px.

Marks:
- Line chart: the current year as a thick 4px amber line with round joins and caps, over an amber area wash (a vertical gradient from 26% to 0% opacity down to the baseline), ending in a 6px amber dot with a 2.5px #1F1612 ring. The prior year as a thin 1.5px cream line dashed 5 4 at 85% opacity, underneath.
- Event markers: each service-plan change is a solid amber triangle (14px wide, pointing up) sitting just below the baseline, a 1px amber dotted guide (1 4, 55% opacity) rising through the plot, and a small amber label at the top ("PLAN A WK 10").
- Bar chart: current-period columns in amber with square corners, prior-period values as thin cream dashed outline columns or tick marks behind them, the same triangles on the axis, and the same track strip.

Avoid: neon glows, multiple accent colors, heavy gridlines, cool blue-grays, pure black or pure white, and letting the tie strip crowd the footer text.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the amber line dominates at thumbnail size, the cream dashed line stays readable against the brown, the triangles sit exactly under their weeks, and the numbers in the title match the data.
