Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "UV Survey" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a conservation lab's environmental monitoring board photographed under ultraviolet light. Deep violet-black, fluorescent readings, monospaced instrument type and a strict small-multiples grid.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #140F22, with a soft radial wash of #231A3D at the upper center. Panels: #1B1530 with a 1px #2E2647 border and 6px radius.
- Data lines: #C7A6FF (UV lilac). Safe range band and in-range readouts: #7CF2C4 (mint), the band at 0.1 fill opacity with 0.8px dashed (2 3) edges at 0.45 opacity.
- Alerts: #F2EE7E (pale lemon) for breaching panels' 1.5px outline, their room code, their warning triangle, out-of-range line segments and out-of-range readouts.
- Title text #E6E0F5; secondary text #8E86A8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Space Grotesk 600 at 27px for the panel title, stating the finding.
- JetBrains Mono for all labels: subtitle 11px uppercase with 0.6px letter-spacing; room codes 12px 700; room names 10.5px; current readout 15px 700 right-aligned; legend and footer 10 to 10.5px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title and subtitle at the top, a one-line legend (safe band swatch, breach outline swatch) under them, then a 3 x 3 grid of equal panels from x 56 to 904 and y 134 to 538 with 14px gutters.
- Each panel: room code at the top-left corner, name beside it, current value at the top-right, sparkline below with 14px side padding.
- Footer: source note at the left, location in tracked caps at the right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes and no gridlines inside panels. The shared y range is fixed across panels so the band sits at the same height everywhere; the band edges are the only reference lines.

Marks:
- Line chart: each sparkline a 1.6px lilac line with a UV glow (Gaussian blur 2.6 merged twice under the line; filter region userSpaceOnUse covering the whole canvas). Redraw the line in lemon at 2px clipped to the regions outside the safe band so breaches light up. End each line with an r 2.8 dot in mint (in range) or lemon (out of range).
- Bar chart: one small panel per group, with thin 6px bars in lilac and a glow, the safe band drawn behind them, and bars that cross the band edge filled lemon above (or below) the edge.
- Breaching panels also get a small lemon warning triangle with a dark "!" to the left of the readout.

Avoid: white, warm colors, thick lines, per-panel axes, legends inside panels, and glows that are clipped at panel edges.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the count of lemon panels matches the title, every out-of-range segment is lemon, readouts use the right color, and the glow is not clipped.
