Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Urban Rural" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a bold census poster on charcoal. A tall condensed uppercase headline, one electric chartreuse against deep moss, and a single thin white bracket that points at the moment everything tipped.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1A1D1F (charcoal).
- Primary share (urban): #D9F99D (chartreuse). Also the top rule, eyebrow and closing stat.
- Remainder (rural): #3F6212 (deep moss); its legend swatch gets a 1px #6E8F45 border and its legend label is #A8C77A.
- Highlight bracket, 50% line and headline: #FFFFFF. Secondary text: #A3A9A5. Foot rule: #33393B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Display 800 for the headline (48px, uppercase, 0.5px letter-spacing, states the finding) and 700 for the bracket label (15px uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing).
- Libre Franklin for everything else: eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; subtitle 14.5px #A3A9A5; legend 13px 700; axis labels 12.5px and 13px with tabular figures; share labels on bars 14px 800 in #1A1D1F; source 12px; closing stat 12px 700 chartreuse.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. A 1.5px chartreuse rule across the full width at the top, then the eyebrow with a two-tone legend (14px square swatches) right-aligned on the same line, the headline, and the subtitle.
- Plot from x 100 to 904, y 196 to 486. Foot: a 1px #33393B rule, the source at left and a closing stat ("14% → 76% urban", the arrow drawn as a stroked path since Libre Franklin has no arrow glyph) right-aligned in chartreuse.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. Y labels at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% right-aligned 12px left of the plot. Period labels 22px under the bars; the highlighted period's label is 800 white, the others 500 #A3A9A5.
- A 1px white dashed line (3 on, 4 off, 75% opacity) across the plot at 50%.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked columns, 42px wide, square corners, the primary share in #D9F99D on the baseline and the remainder in #3F6212 on top. The primary share is printed inside each column 18px below the top of its chartreuse segment. The first period where the primary share passes 50% gets a thin 1.2px white bracket: two square brackets, 7px outside each column edge, running from 10px above the column top to 32px below the baseline, with 8px returns, and a "URBAN MAJORITY" label centered above.
- Line chart: a 100% stacked area: #D9F99D area from the baseline up to the primary share line, #3F6212 area above it, a 2px #1A1D1F line on the boundary, the dashed 50% line, and the same white bracket drawn as a vertical band around the crossover period.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, gridlines, more than two fill colors, and printing both shares on every bar (print only the primary share).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bracketed period is the first one above 50%, the headline names that same period, every share label sits fully inside its chartreuse segment, and the legend stays inside the right margin.
