Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Unboxing Time" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a luxury skincare lookbook page. Near-black, hairline-thin marks, a high-contrast display serif and a restrained warm gold, with plenty of air.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #121212. Title and point labels: #F3EDE4. Secondary text: #8F8A83. Hairline gridlines: #2A2826. Icons: #A39C92. Source: #6A665F.
- Series: warm gold #C9A45C first, pale pink #F2C6CF second.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Italiana 400 for the title, 33px, #F3EDE4, stating the finding.
- Jost for everything else: eyebrow 11px 500 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in gold; subtitle 14px 300 #8F8A83; panel labels 12px 500 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in the series color, with a 12px 300 unit line below; point labels 12px 400 #F3EDE4 (the last point 15px 500 in the series color); axis labels 11px 300; category labels 13px 400 with 1px letter-spacing (the latest 600 in #F3EDE4).

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at 94, subtitle at 122.
- When two measures have different units, never share a y axis: stack two hairline panels that share the x positions (here 160 to 290 and 340 to 450), with the panel label at the left margin and three tick values at the right edge.
- Plot x from 206 to 856. Under the panels, a row of small outlined icons (1.1px #A39C92 strokes, about 36 x 34 px) at each x position, then the category label 60px below the icon top.

Axes and grid:
- Three hairline gridlines per panel, 1px #2A2826, running 20px past the plot on both sides. No axis lines, no ticks. Tick values sit to the right in Jost 300 11px.

Marks:
- Line chart: 1.6px monotone smoothed lines, hollow points (r 3.5, background fill, 1.4px stroke in the series color), the last point solid r 5. Every point labeled 12px above.
- Bar chart: slender 14px bars in the series color at 85% opacity with square tops, value labels 12px above, the latest bar solid with its label in 15px 500; stack two panels the same way for two measures.

Labels and annotation:
- The icon row tells the story: each category's outlined box sheds one detail (bow, ribbon, tissue zigzag, window, seal, lid seam) until the last is a plain single-piece box with a pull tab.

Avoid: thick lines, fills under lines, glows, bright saturated colors, dual y axes, and boxed legends.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no point label collides with a panel label, the two panels use separate labeled scales, the icons get visibly simpler left to right, and the title's numbers match the data.
