Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Ultraviolet" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a flat, loud music-industry dashboard. Deep violet, acid-bright lines, a huge outlined word as the masthead, all confident color and no glow.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #240A52 (deep violet).
- Series: acid lime #C8FF00, hot pink #FF3EA5, bright aqua #35E0FF.
- Pale lilac #D9C8FF for the outlined title word, gridlines (at 16% opacity) and end values. Dimmer lilac #A08BD0 for subtitle, axis labels and source. Headline #FFFFFF.
- The annotation tag is solid lime #C8FF00 with violet #240A52 text.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Syne 800 for the outlined title word: 112px, uppercase, -2px letter-spacing, no fill, 1.6px lilac stroke, baseline y 118. Also Syne 800 26px white for the headline stating the finding (baseline y 160).
- Work Sans for everything else: subtitle 400 16px (y 188); axis labels 400 14px; series names 600 16px in the series color with the end value 400 15px lilac right-aligned at x 904; tag kicker 600 11px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; tag body 600 14px; source 400 12px.

Layout:
- 50 to 56px left margin. Plot from x 80 to 750 horizontally (end of the data), y 232 (top) to 528 (bottom); labels for each series to the right of its final level at x 762.
- Source bottom left at y 584.

Axes and grid:
- Faint lilac horizontal gridlines only (1px, 16% opacity), extending to x 904. No vertical gridlines, no axis lines.
- Y labels right-aligned at x 66 with a currency prefix; year labels centered under their January position.

Marks:
- Line chart: step lines (step-after), 3px strokes, miter joins, changing level exactly on each change date and running flat to the right edge. A square notch at every change: a 10px square filled with the page color, 2.5px stroke in the series color, centered on the new level at the change date.
- Bar chart: flat vertical bars in the three hues with square corners, 2px page-colored gaps between grouped bars, a small 10px outlined square cap on the latest bar of each series, same lilac gridlines.

Labels and annotation:
- One annotation tag: a solid lime rectangle about 178 x 48 px with a small lime triangle pointing at the step it describes, placed in empty space right under that step. Uppercase kicker on the first line, the change on the second ("+44%, $7.99 to $11.49").

Effects:
- None. No glows, gradients, blurs or shadows; the palette carries the energy.

Avoid: neon glows, smoothing the steps, filled title word, more than three hues, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each notch sits on a real change, the end labels don't collide (nudge close pairs apart), the tag text fits inside the tag, and the headline's claim matches the data.
