Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tweed" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tailor's cloth book laid out on a dark herringbone jacket. Heathered estate tones, cream tacking stitches and a small leather label. Warm, textured, understated and a little country.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #26241F (charcoal) with a herringbone weave in #34312A.
- Series, in stacking order from the baseline: #6F7A4A (moss), #CBB895 (oatmeal), #A4573A (rust), #8E7A93 (heather lilac). Keep the light oatmeal between moss and rust so those two never touch.
- Stitches, title and values: #E8DFCC (warm off-white). Secondary text and tick labels: #A69F90.
- Leather tab: #7A4B2E.
- Direct label text uses the series color, lightened for the dark tones (moss label #9AA56E, lilac label #B3A0B8).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rokkitt (slab serif) for the title (700, 38px, stating the finding), bar totals (500 16px; 700 20px on the record bar) and the tab value (700 15px).
- Karla for small text: subtitle 16px 400 secondary; tick labels 12px; category labels 13px (the record one 700 in off-white); series labels 700 13px; footer note 700 10px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 52px side margins. Title and subtitle at the top left.
- Plot about x 104 to 784, y 176 to 478, enclosed by a stitched border: a rounded (4px) rectangle 36px left, 34px above, 20px right and 36px below the plot, filled black at 12% and stroked 1.3px off-white at 75%, dashed 6 on 4.
- Series labels just outside the border to the right, level with the middle of each segment of the last bar, joined to it by a short 1.2px leader in the series color.

Texture:
- Herringbone: a 16px tile of short diagonal 1.6px strokes, left half rising and right half falling, in #34312A on the ground (about 6% contrast).
- Heather speckle on every segment: a 28px tile of about 70 tiny flecks (0.8 to 2.6 x 0.9 px, rotated up to 20 degrees), half white and half black, each at 14% to 30% opacity, over the flat series color.
- A radial vignette to black at 40% at the edges.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at round values, 1px off-white at 12%. Tick labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot. A 1px off-white baseline at 60%. No y-axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart (stacked): square-cornered 46px bars (about 60% of the band), segments flat with the heather speckle. Between segments, a 1px off-white running stitch (3 on 2) inset 2px from each bar edge. Totals centered 9px above each bar.
- Line chart: 3px lines in the series colors with the heather speckle applied through a mask, a 1px off-white running stitch (3 on 2) laid 3px above each line, and 8px square markers with a 1px off-white stitched outline. The area under the top series may carry the herringbone at a slightly higher contrast.
- Leather tab: on the record bar (or at the record point), a 54 x 26 px #7A4B2E tab with 3px radius, set 8px above the baseline, with a soft black shadow (35%, 1px right, 1.5px down), a dashed off-white stitch (0.8px, 2.5 on 2) 3px inside and the total centered in Rokkitt.

Avoid: saturated or bright colors, gradients on the bars, rounded bar tops, glossy effects, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the herringbone is barely visible, the speckle does not muddy the segment colors, moss and rust are never adjacent, the running stitches are visible between every pair of segments, and the tab total matches the record bar.
