Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tri-Line" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1970s science museum poster. Dark chocolate ground, warm triple stripes echoed in the frame and in every trend line, soft rounded type. Friendly, optimistic, and tidy.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #2B1A12 (dark chocolate).
- The three stripe colors, always together and always in this order: #F28C28 (tangerine), #F2C14E (gold), #F6E7CB (cream).
- Muted text (subtitle, axis labels, notes): #B89E86. Grid dots: #F6E7CB at 40% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Title: Righteous 36px #F6E7CB, stating the finding.
- Nunito for everything else: subtitle lines 600 15px and 400 14px #B89E86; axis value labels 600 13px #B89E86; year labels 700 14px #F6E7CB with 2px letter-spacing; pill values 800 15px; pill captions 700 12px #F2C14E; source and notes 400 or 600 12px #B89E86.

Layout:
- A large rounded frame with a triple-stripe border: three 4px strokes 8px apart (tangerine outermost, then gold, then cream), outer rectangle at x 24, y 36, 912 x 540, corner radius 34 (26 and 18 for the inner two).
- Signature notch: the title sits on the top edge of the frame, starting at x 76 with baseline y 60, and the three stripes are cut away behind it (about 18px clear of the text on both sides) like a legend inset into a fieldset border.
- Subtitle lines at y 100 and 121 inside the frame. Plot from x 104 to 776 and y 186 to 470. Source bottom left and a short reading note bottom right, both at y 546 inside the frame.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines and no axis lines: a sparse grid of cream dots (radius 1.5, 2 on the zero row) at every year boundary and every labelled value step.
- Value labels right aligned 20px left of the plot ("10k" to "50k"). Year labels centered under each year, spaced out.

Marks:
- Line chart: every trend line is three tightly spaced parallel strokes, each 3.4px wide with centers 5.6px apart (tangerine on the upper side, gold in the middle, cream on the lower side), rounded caps and joins. Offset them along the curve normals of a smooth monotone curve (sample it densely and offset each sample), not by shifting vertically, so the spacing stays even on slopes. When the raw series is too jagged for three strokes (for example monthly data with strong seasonality) draw the raw series as a faint 1.3px cream line at 38% opacity and put the tri-line on its 12-month average. With several series use the same three colors for each and label them directly.
- End values in rounded pills: 28px tall, fully rounded (radius 14), gold fill with chocolate text, set 18px past the end of the line, with a small gold caption above. The starting value gets a matching pill.
- Bar chart: rounded-top bars drawn as three nested stripes: a tangerine bar, a gold bar inset 6px inside it, and a cream bar inset 6px inside that, all with 12px top radii, over the same dot grid; the value in a gold pill above each bar.

Avoid: solid gridlines, square corners, single-stroke lines, cool colors, pure black or white, and heavy fills.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the three strokes stay evenly spaced on steep sections without touching, the frame stripes are cleanly cut around the title with no stripe crossing a letter, the pills don't collide, and the title's number matches the data.
