Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Trellis Bars" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a classic statistical trellis display from a careful scientific report. Warm paper, tan strip headers, one muted brick color and strictly identical panels so the eye compares shapes, not scales.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF8F1 (pale cream). Panel interiors: #FFFDF8.
- Strip headers: #E4D6B8 (tan), with strip text #2B2622 and the strip's secondary value #5A4F42.
- Bars: #B5523B (muted brick). Ghost of the all-series average: #E6DDCB.
- Panel borders and outer ticks: 1px #C9C2B4. In-panel reference lines: 1px #EFE8DA.
- Title and legend text: #2B2622. Secondary text and tick labels: #6F665C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Source Serif 4 600 27px for the title (stating the finding, computed from the data), -0.2px letter-spacing.
- Source Sans 3 for everything else: subtitle 400 15px #6F665C; legend 600 13px; strip labels 600 13px left (panel name) and 400 12px right (panel total, e.g. "1,877 mm"); tick labels 400 11.5px; month initials 400 11px; shared y label 600 13px with 0.6px letter-spacing, rotated -90 degrees in the left margin; source 12px.

Layout:
- Title baseline y 46, subtitle y 71, a one-line legend at y 93 (a 9 x 12 brick swatch "Station", a 14 x 12 ghost swatch "All-station average").
- The trellis spans x 92 to x 920 and y 108 to y 536: 3 rows by 4 columns with exactly 8px gutters. Each panel is a 21px strip header plus a plot area; the whole panel carries a 1px #C9C2B4 border and a 1px rule under the strip.
- Panels sorted by total, largest first, reading left to right, top to bottom.
- One shared y label centered vertically at x 52. Source line at y 582.

Axes and grid:
- Every panel shares the identical x and y scale. Y tick labels (0, 100, 200) and 4px tick marks only on the outer left column; month initials only under the bottom row. No inner-panel axis text.
- Two faint horizontal reference lines per panel at the labeled tick values.

Marks:
- Bar chart: vertical monthly columns, square-cornered, 52% of the band width, solid #B5523B. Behind them, a ghost bar for the all-panel average in each month, #E6DDCB, band width minus 2px, so each panel's bars read against the common average.
- Line chart: the same trellis with a 1.8px #B5523B line per panel (straight segments, no dots) over a #E6DDCB 3px ghost line of the all-panel average; keep strips, borders and outer-only ticks identical.

Avoid: per-panel scales, per-panel axes, multiple bar colors, gradients, rounded corners, heavy borders, panel titles outside the strips, a legend inside a panel.

When you're done, render the chart and check that all panels have identical sizes and scales, gutters are exactly 8px, no bar is clipped by the strip, ticks appear only on the outer edges, and the title's ratio or claim matches the panel totals.
