Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Treasury Balance" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a government daily treasury statement. White paper, a ledger strip of key balances, a monospaced typewriter voice for every figure, and daily data summarized as one range bar per month so the gap to the floor reads at a glance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Treasury green #14532D for range bar outlines, close ticks, tax-date triangles, the callout and the header eyebrow.
- Mint fill #DCEFE2 for the range bar bodies.
- Floor red #B42318 for the threshold line, its label, the low-point figure in the ledger and the year's lowest monthly low under its bar.
- Ink #1A1F1C for the title, rules and figures; secondary text #5F6B63; gridlines and light rules #D5DBD7.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Newsreader 600, 31px, ink, -0.3px letter-spacing for the title, which states the finding. Newsreader italic 400, 15px, #5F6B63 for the subtitle (what the range and tick mean, unit, period) and 12px italic for the source note.
- Roboto Mono for everything else: eyebrow 500, 10.5px, uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing, green ("REPUBLIC OF TESSALY · DAILY TREASURY STATEMENT · FY2027"); ledger labels 400, 9.5px, uppercase, 0.8px letter-spacing, #5F6B63; ledger figures 600, 15px, right-aligned; axis ticks 11px; month labels 10.5px uppercase; monthly low figures 9.5px #5F6B63; threshold label 600, 9.5px uppercase; legend 10.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title, subtitle, then the ledger strip: a 1.4px ink rule, a label row, a 1px #D5DBD7 rule, a figure row, then a 1px ink rule; about 50px tall in all. Five equal columns (opening, closing, change, low with date, high with date) split by short 1px #D5DBD7 vertical dividers; labels top-left, figures bottom-right of each cell.
- The chart below spans x 96 to 880, about 250px tall. Under it a thin rule, a one-line legend, then the source note left and a small "TABLE I" folio right.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis: no line, tick labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, unit "$bn" above the top tick. Horizontal gridlines 0.8px #D5DBD7 at round values.
- X axis: a 1.2px ink baseline at zero, one equal band per month, uppercase month abbreviations centered 18px below the axis, no ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart of daily data: summarize each month as a range bar. An 18px wide body from the month's lowest to highest daily value, filled #DCEFE2 with a 1.2px green outline; a heavy 2.8px green horizontal tick 6px wider than the body on each side at the month-end value; the month's low printed 14px under the body in 9.5px mono (the year's lowest in 600 floor red). Join the month-end ticks with a 1px green dotted line (2 3) at 80% opacity. Months with a receipt event get a small solid green upward triangle (8px wide) under the month label. The threshold is a 1.6px floor red line dashed 7 4 across the plot, labeled in red caps at its right end on a small white patch.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered treasury green columns (about 60% of the band) on the ink baseline, any value below the threshold in floor red, with the threshold still drawn as the dashed red line and the same event triangles under the month labels. The ledger strip stays.

Labels and annotation:
- Label the single most important event directly (for example "Apr 15 receipts +$34bn") in 600 10.5px green mono to the right of that month's bar, joined by a short 1px green leader. The ledger shows the low and high with their dates, computed from the data.

Avoid: a plain daily line with area fill (that is a different style), candlestick colors for up and down months, gradients, drop shadows, more than one accent besides red, and a boxed chart frame.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ledger figures match the first, last, minimum and maximum of the series, the title's claim about the threshold is true, each bar's low and high match that month's minimum and maximum, and low figures, month labels, receipt triangles and legend don't touch.
