Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Travel Poster" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a vintage resort travel poster printed in flat graded color. Sunny, calm and confident: a turquoise sky melting into cream, a striped coral sun, a sandy coastline and a deep navy sea along the bottom. Nothing photographic, no shadows.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Sky: a vertical linear gradient from #9ED8D5 (pale turquoise) at the very top to #F6EBD3 (cream) at 72% of the way down to the sea line, then flat cream. The page below the gradient is #F6EBD3.
- Sun: #E8735A (coral) flat disc. The subtitle uses a darker coral, #C4533B, so it stays readable.
- Ink, lines, sea band: #1B2F4F (deep navy).
- Land fill under the line: #EBD3A4 (sand).
- Wave dashes in the sea: #2E4A70.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Limelight (400) for the place-name title: 62px, all caps, 10px letter-spacing, navy, centered. Also for the highlighted value labels on the chart (26px for the peak, 20px for the low point).
- Josefin Sans for everything else: an eyebrow line above the title (600, 15px, 6px letter-spacing, uppercase, navy) flanked by two 86px navy rules 1.5px thick; the finding as a subtitle (600, 20px, #C4533B, centered, sentence case); the axis caption (600, 12px, uppercase, 2.5px letter-spacing, navy at 75% opacity); axis labels (600, 14px, navy); month labels (600, 15px, uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, cream); source and footer (12px and 11px, cream at 72% opacity, the footer 600 with 3px letter-spacing).

Layout:
- Header centered: eyebrow at y 53, title baseline at y 122, subtitle at y 160. Axis caption left-aligned at y 196.
- Plot from x 118 to 872, top at y 212. The sea band is a flat navy rectangle from y 470 to the bottom edge, full width. The plot's baseline is the top of the sea band: the chart literally sits on the horizon.
- Sun: a 58px-radius coral disc high over the quietest part of the chart (behind the gridlines, never behind the data). Cut three horizontal stripes across its lower half (4, 5.5 and 7px tall, 18, 32 and 44px below its center) filled with the same sky gradient so the sky shows through, the classic setting-sun motif.
- Footer inside the sea band at y 586: "Source: ..." on the left, an uppercase organization line on the right, both cream.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px navy at 28% opacity, dashed 2 on 5, drawn over the sky and the land. Labels to the left, right-aligned, with % units.
- No axis lines: the sea band is the baseline. Each month gets a 1.5px cream tick 8px tall hanging into the sea from the horizon, with its label 34px below the horizon. Emphasize the peak month label in 700 sand (#EBD3A4).
- Sea texture: two full-width navy-light (#2E4A70) dashed lines, 3px thick, at y 548 (dash 34 on 22) and y 562 (dash 18 on 30, offset 14).

Marks:
- Line chart: a smooth monotone curve in navy, 3.5px, round joins, with the area below it down to the horizon filled flat sand (#EBD3A4) so it reads as a coastline. Extend the coast flat to the plot edges at the first and last values. Data points are 4px-radius cream dots with a 2px navy ring; the peak and the low point are 6.5px coral dots with a navy ring and carry their values in Limelight above them.
- Bar chart: flat sand (#EBD3A4) bars with a 3.5px navy top edge and no outline elsewhere, standing on the horizon like beach huts, about 55% of the band wide, square corners. The peak bar fills coral (#E8735A). Values in Limelight 20px navy above the bars (26px for the peak).

Avoid: gradients anywhere except the sky, drop shadows, glows, textures on the land, a legend for one series, more than one sun, and rounded bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the chart's baseline sits exactly on the sea band, the sun's stripes match the sky behind them, the month labels are legible cream on navy, and the subtitle's finding matches the data.
