Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Trading Desk" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a dense professional market terminal. Pure black, amber type, green for up and red for down, crisp hairlines, every pixel carrying information. No glow, no scanlines, no rounded corners.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #000000 everywhere, including panels.
- Amber #FFA028: headline, labels of fields and tickers, the active tab and annotation flags (filled amber with #000000 text), the average or reference series.
- Up #1FD65F and down #FF4040: price moves, changes, arrows, and a line's color above and below its baseline.
- Values: #E8E8E8. Secondary text and axis labels: #8C8C8C.
- Gridlines: #242424. Panel rules and borders: #3A3A3A. Neutral price tag: #5A5A5A.

Typography (Google Fonts): Roboto Mono only, weights 400, 500 and 700.
- Headline 27px 700 uppercase amber, stating the finding with the number ("ARABICA +6.2% ON FROST WARNING").
- Subtitle 13px 400 #8C8C8C with the measure and unit.
- Field labels 11px #8C8C8C uppercase; field values 15px 700. Ticker strip 12px (name 500 amber, value #E8E8E8, change 500 in up/down). Axis labels 12px. Legend and point labels 11px. Tabs 12px 700.

Layout (top to bottom, 16px side margins):
- Command bar (0 to 30px): an amber block with the instrument code in black 13px 700, then the full name in amber 13px 500; range tabs (1D 5D 1M 6M YTD 5Y) as 40 x 19px boxes, the active one filled amber with black text, the rest with a 1px #3A3A3A outline and #8C8C8C text; date and time right-aligned in #8C8C8C.
- Ticker strip (36 to 64px) between 1px #3A3A3A rules: five equal cells separated by 1px vertical rules, each "NAME value ▲+1.8%" with a 9px filled triangle (up points up in #1FD65F, down points down in #FF4040) just before the right-aligned change.
- Headline at y 102, subtitle at y 126.
- Metrics row at y 158: OPEN, HIGH, LOW, LAST, CHG, %CHG and an average, spaced every 132px; LAST and the changes in the up/down color.
- A 1px #3A3A3A rule across the full width, then the plot (about 40 to 866px wide, 188 to 500px tall) in a 1px #3A3A3A box.
- A status bar under a full-width rule: source left ("SOURCE: ILLUSTRATIVE DATA"), range summary centered, a green 4px dot plus "MARKET OPEN" right, all 12px.

Axes and grid:
- Price axis on the RIGHT: labels with two decimals just outside the plot, 5px tick marks in #3A3A3A. Solid 1px #242424 horizontal and vertical gridlines at regular intervals. Time labels (HH:MM) centered under the plot.
- Price tags on the axis: a flag shape (a 7px arrow point touching the plot edge, 18px tall, running to the right margin) filled with the series color, value in 12px 700 black. The latest value gets an up-colored tag; a reference level (prior close) gets a #5A5A5A tag with #E8E8E8 text.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight 1.6px segments, no smoothing. Draw it as a baseline chart against a reference level (prior close, target, or first value): clip the line to #1FD65F above the reference and #FF4040 below, and fill between line and reference with the same color fading from 22% to 2% opacity toward the reference. Draw the reference as a 1px #8C8C8C line dashed 6/4. A second series (average) is a 1.2px amber line dashed 2/2. A 3px dot on the last point with a 1/2 dotted leader to its axis tag. Mark the high and low with a 17px horizontal tick and "H 371.85" / "L 346.90" in 11px #E8E8E8.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars, green where the value rose versus the previous bar (or is positive) and red where it fell, filled at 85% with a 1px full-color outline, about 60% of the band width; value labels above in 11px #E8E8E8; the latest bar gets an axis tag.
- Events: a 1px amber vertical line dashed 3/3 with an amber-filled flag at the top ("10:40 FROST WARNING", 12px 700 black).

Legend: inside the plot, top left, 11px #E8E8E8 labels after 20px line swatches in each series' exact stroke and dash.

Avoid: glow, blur, gradients other than the faint baseline fills, rounded corners, proportional fonts, green-on-black monochrome, and empty space. It should feel dense but aligned.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ticker strip cells don't collide, the axis tags don't overlap each other, and every number in the headline and metrics row matches the data.
