Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tour Dates" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a band's tour poster. Matte black, heavy condensed type, electric lime, a tall dates list down the right side and a torn paper strip of small print at the bottom.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #0E0E0E (matte black).
- One color per group (tour leg): #C6F432 electric lime, #EDEBE4 bone, #8C95A3 steel gray, in that order.
- Text: bone #EDEBE4 for headlines, steel gray #8C95A3 for metadata, #5E646E for month labels. Gridlines and dividers: #262626.
- The torn strip is bone #EDEBE4 with #0E0E0E text.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Display 900 for the title, uppercase, 60px, two lines (baselines about y 120 and 172). Big Shoulders Display 800 for the dates list (50px, two lines per group) and for counts inside bars (18px, #0E0E0E).
- Chivo Mono for all small text: eyebrow 500 11px with 1.5px letter-spacing in lime; subtitle 400 11px steel gray; month labels 500 10px; bar names 500 10px uppercase with 0.5px letter-spacing in the bar's color; group heads 700 12px with 1px letter-spacing in the group color; footer 700 and 400 11px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. The chart takes the left two thirds (x 48 to 604); a 1.5px #262626 vertical divider at x 636; the right third (x 660 to 912) lists each group as a 12px color square, a group head, the date range in huge stacked type ("SEP 18–" over "DEC 19") and a small right-aligned count, with 1px #262626 rules between groups.
- The bottom 54px is a torn paper strip in bone: its top edge is a fine random jag (steps of 2 to 7px, +/-1.6px jitter on a slowly drifting line) around y 549. Source on the left, small print on the right.

Axes and grid:
- A calendar axis: 1px #262626 vertical lines at each month start across the plot, three-letter month labels centered in each month above the plot. No y axis.

Marks:
- Bar chart: floating range bars from first to last date, 20px tall, square corners, filled with the group color, one row per item in date order so they step down the page. The name sits 6px above the bar start (right-aligned to the bar end if it would cross the divider) and the count is set inside the bar's left end.
- Line chart: 3px straight-segment lines, one per group in lime, bone and steel gray, with square 6px markers and the name in Chivo Mono at the line end; the same dates list and torn strip.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, thin decorative fonts, and more than three data colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bar names never cross the divider, counts fit inside their bars, the dates list matches the bars, and the title's numbers add up.
