Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tool Hours" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a machine log pinned to a deep green workshop wall. Sawdust-tan bars, one brass leader, tiny machine silhouettes in tiles and orange service ticks, like a well-kept maintenance board.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #132019 (deep workshop green) with a faint pegboard of r 1.6 dots every 40px in #0C1711.
- Bars: #D2BF97 (sawdust tan); the top or highlighted bar #D4A64A (brass), whose label and value also turn brass.
- Event ticks: #F07A2E (orange) with a 1px background-colored outline.
- Text: #EDE6D3 (cream) for names and values; #8FA396 for subtitle and ticks; icon tiles #1B2D23 with a 1px #28402F edge; icons #B7A887 (brass for the top row); gridlines #22352A; zero line #5B7465; footer #6F8578.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora 600 for the title (31px, #EDE6D3, stating the finding with the computed difference); Lora italic 16px for the subtitle; Lora 12.5px for the source.
- Oswald for everything else: eyebrow 12.5px 500 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in brass; row names 16px 500 uppercase with 1px letter-spacing (600 brass for the top row); bar-end values 16px 500 (18px 600 brass for the top row); tick labels and key 12.5 to 13px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 52, title baseline about y 96, subtitle about y 126 at x 56. A small key for the event ticks right-aligned above the plot.
- One 44px row per category starting at y 176: a 40 x 34 rounded (6px) icon tile at x 52 holding a 28 x 24 solid silhouette of the item, the name at x 108, and the bar starting at x 256. X ticks under the last row with a unit word after the last tick.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical gridlines at even steps (1px #22352A) through all rows, a 1.4px #5B7465 zero line, no horizontal gridlines and no box.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 20px tall with only the right end rounded (3px), sorted descending, starting at zero. Values printed 10px beyond each bar end. Events along a bar are 3px wide orange ticks that overhang the bar by 5px above and below.
- Line chart: 2.5px tan lines with the leading series in brass at 3px, small square markers, orange ticks standing on the line at event times, names in Oswald caps at the right end next to small icon tiles.

Avoid: gradients, glow, bevels, clip-art icons with detail that vanishes at thumbnail size, bright greens, and more than one brass mark.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the icons read at thumbnail size, event ticks never hide the value labels, only one row is brass, and the title's percentage matches the data.
