Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Tolerance Stack

LightBar

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tolerance Stack" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an engineering tolerance stack-up sheet. White paper, a thin sheet border, monospaced dimensions, pale gray floating bars with hairline black outlines, and one orange total that shows whether the parts still fit.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF with a 1px #111111 sheet border inset 20px.
- Ink: #111111 for outlines, nominal ticks, rules and main text. Secondary text: #707070. Dashed gridlines and row rules: #D6D6D6.
- Part bars: #E4E4E2 fill with a 0.9px #111111 outline.
- Total and limit: #F26B1D (orange) for the stacked total bar, its labels, the gap limit line and the interference callout.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans for the title (29px 700, -0.6px letter-spacing, stating the finding with the numbers), subtitle (15px 400 #707070 with measure and unit), part names (14.5px 500) and the total row name (14.5px 700); footer source 12px.
- DM Mono for every number and code: eyebrow 11.5px 500 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; column heads 10.5px with 1px letter-spacing; part numbers and nominal values 12.5px; range end labels 11.5px; axis ticks 11px; total labels 12.5px 500 orange; dimension text 12px 500 uppercase; drawing code at bottom right 10.5px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow y 60, title y 100, subtitle y 128, all at x 48.
- A left table (NO., PART, NOM right-aligned at x 262) and the chart from x 330 to 890, sharing one header row at y 170 with a 0.8px ink rule under it.
- One 38px row per part with 0.8px #D6D6D6 rules between rows in the table area only.
- A 0.8px ink rule above the total row, then the total row, then a dimension line below it.
- Footer at y 562: source left, "DWG TS-014 / SCALE NTS / UNITS MM" right.

Axes and grid:
- Axis labels along the top header in mono, signed (-0.40, 0, +0.20). Vertical gridlines 0.8px #D6D6D6 dashed 2 on 3 off; the zero (nominal) line solid 0.9px ink.
- The limit (the design gap) as a 1.2px orange line dashed 6 on 3 off running through all rows.

Marks:
- Bar chart: floating horizontal bars 16px tall from each part's lower to upper deviation, square corners, with a 2.4px black nominal tick extending 5px above and below the bar. Signed end labels 7px outside each end. The total row is a 22px bar in solid #F26B1D up to the limit and 45 degree orange hatching (6px spacing) beyond it, outlined 0.9px ink, with orange end labels. A small leader from the hatched part to "INTERFERENCE 0.04" in orange mono.
- Dimension arrow: thin extension lines down from the nominal and limit lines, then a 0.9px double arrow (solid triangular heads) between them, broken by a white label "GAP 0.40 MM".
- Line chart: plot the running cumulative stack as a 1.5px black stepped line with a pale #E4E4E2 band for the cumulative tolerance range, the final cumulative range and its point in orange, and the same dashed orange limit line and dimension arrow.

Avoid: rounded corners, fills other than the pale gray and orange, drop shadows, colored text other than orange, and proportional digits for numbers.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the total equals the sum of the part ranges, the nominal ticks line up on zero, the hatching starts exactly at the limit, and the dimension arrowheads touch their extension lines.
