Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tide Table" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a premium harbor tide app at night. Deep indigo, one calm pale aqua curve with a soft glow, every peak and trough labeled with its time and value, darker night bands and a row of moon phases. Quiet, precise and easy to read at a glance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #131B3F (indigo). Night (or off-hours) bands: #090D24.
- Primary mark: #7FE3D8 (tide aqua). Area fill: a vertical gradient of #7FE3D8 from 34% opacity at the top of the value range to 2% at the baseline.
- Moon icons: #F2EBD3 lit side on a #2A3263 disc. Main text: #E6ECF8. Secondary text: #8B95BD. Gridlines: #232C55. Day separators: #39427A.
- Extra series (if any): #F2EBD3 dashed 6 4, then #8B95BD dotted, each labeled directly.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans throughout: title 700 28px #E6ECF8 with -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 400 16px #8B95BD with measure, unit and period; peak/trough times 600 13px #E6ECF8; values 12.5px #8B95BD (the extreme ones 600 in aqua); axis labels 12 to 13px #8B95BD; group labels (days) 600 15px #E6ECF8; phase labels 500 14px; source 12px.

Layout:
- Title at y 62 and subtitle at y 92, left at x 56. A row of three moon icons with labels at y 146, one per day group. Plot from x 92 to 896, value range from y 186 (top) to 440 (zero).
- Below the plot, leave 46px clear for trough labels, then a thin tick row, time labels at 66px below zero and group (day) labels at 86px below zero. Footer at y 578: source at the left, a small key swatch (14px square of #090D24 with a 1px #39427A outline) and "Sunset to sunrise" at the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at each whole unit: 1px #232C55 dashed 2 5; the zero line solid. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot with units ("4 m").
- Vertical 1px #39427A separators at group boundaries (midnights) through the plot only. Night bands are full-height rectangles behind everything in the plot.
- Ticks every 6 hours in the tick row, with the group separators continuing 30px lower.

Marks:
- Line chart: a smooth 2.6px aqua line with round joins, a duplicate underneath at 55% opacity blurred with a 4px Gaussian glow, and the gradient area fill. Mark every local maximum with a filled aqua dot (r 4.2) and every local minimum with an indigo-filled dot ringed in 2px aqua. Label maxima above (time 30px above, value 14px above) and minima below (time 24px below, value 40px below). The overall highest and lowest points get a larger dot (r 5.5) and their value in aqua 600.
- Bar chart: slim columns of aqua at 70% opacity with 3px rounded tops, 45% of the band, over the same night bands, a 1px aqua top cap at full opacity, and the value above each bar in DM Sans 600 13px. Highlight the maximum with a full-opacity bar and its value in aqua.
- Moon icons: r 11 discs; draw the lit part as a semicircle plus an ellipse of horizontal radius r x (2k - 1) for illuminated fraction k, lit on the right while waxing and the left while waning.

Avoid: bright saturated colors other than the aqua, heavy gridlines, boxed legends, drop shadows, markers on every sample, and labels that touch the curve, the zero line or each other.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every peak and trough has its time and value, trough labels clear the axis labels, night bands are visible but subtle, the moon phases lean the right way, and the title's number is computed from the data.
