Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Threat Brief" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a restricted threat intelligence brief. Sober, printed and evidential: warm report paper, black type, most data pushed back to gray so one focus series and its numbered evidence carry the page.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F4EE (warm off-white report paper) for the whole canvas.
- Ink: #1C1B19 for the title, footnotes, the distribution banner, callout circles, the reference line at 100 and the confidence box border.
- Focus series: #A63D2F (muted brick red). Only one series gets it; it is also used for the eyebrow and the filled segments of the confidence meter.
- Aggregate series (all groups combined, or the overall benchmark): #2E4057 (slate navy).
- Every other series: #B7B2A8 (light warm gray).
- Secondary text: #6B665E. Hairline rules and gridlines: #DDD7CB.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Source Serif 4 for the narrative: title 600 at 26px in ink, sentence case, stating the finding; footnote text 400 at 13px; the confidence rating word 600 at 18px.
- Source Sans 3 for everything else: banner 700 at 10.5px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; eyebrow 600 at 11px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in brick; subtitle 400 at 15px in #6B665E stating measure, unit and base period; axis labels 400 at 12 to 12.5px; direct labels 12.5px (700 for the focus and aggregate, 400 for gray series); source 11px.

Layout:
- A 20px ink banner across the very top edge, centered text in page color: "INTERNAL | DISTRIBUTION LIMITED TO SECURITY STAFF | INTERNAL".
- 40px side margins. Eyebrow with a document number at y 52, title at y 88, subtitle at y 114, then a full-width 1px ink rule at y 134.
- A confidence rating box in the upper right (150 x 62, 1px ink border, no fill): a small uppercase label "ANALYST CONFIDENCE", the rating word, and a three-segment meter (38 x 4 px segments, 4px apart) with filled segments in brick and empty ones in #DDD7CB. Keep the title clear of it.
- Plot from x 72 to 780; direct labels to the right of the last point.
- Below the plot, a hairline rule and numbered footnotes (one line each, 20px apart), then a hairline rule and a footer with the source on the left and "PAGE 3 OF 9" on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Index chart: every series rebased to its first period = 100. Draw the 100 line as a 1px ink rule with its tick label bold; other gridlines 1px #DDD7CB, labels 12px #6B665E, right-aligned 10px left of the plot.
- No y-axis line. X axis ticks are 5px #6B665E marks below the lowest gridline with period labels 21px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments with round joins. Gray context lines 1.4px, the navy aggregate 2px with a 3px end dot, the brick focus line 2.6px drawn last with a 4px end dot. Direct labels at the right ("Name 314", final index value), each connected to its end point by a short 0.8px leader, spread vertically so they sit at least 16px apart.
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered bars in #B7B2A8, the focus category in #A63D2F and any aggregate or benchmark bar in #2E4057, value labels at the bar ends in Source Sans 3 12.5px, a 1px ink baseline; for indexed bars, draw the 100 rule in ink across the bars.

Labels and annotation:
- Numbered callouts: 9px-radius ink circles with white 700 11.5px numerals, connected by a 0.8px ink leader to a small open marker (2.5px radius, page fill, 1.4px brick stroke) on the focus series. Each number matches a footnote below the chart, where the same number sits in a 7px ink circle.
- Footnotes start with the period ("May:") and state a fact that is arithmetically true for the data.

Avoid: color on more than one non-aggregate series, legends (label directly), gradients, shadows, rounded corners, chart junk, and any claim in a footnote the data does not support.

When you're done, render the chart and check that only one series is brick red, the right-hand labels do not collide, every callout number has a matching footnote, the confidence box does not touch the title, and the banner text is centered and fully visible.
