Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Thermogram" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the readout of a lab instrument's analysis software. Dark graphite, a bright white primary curve, a thinner orange derivative in its own panel, cyan measurement marks and a techno-squared typeface.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #16171A. Plot panels: #1C1D21.
- Primary curve and step labels: #F4F5F7 (white). Derivative curve: #F28E2B (orange) with a 12% fill under it.
- Measurement marks (onsets) and the eyebrow: #7CC4D8 (cyan).
- Secondary text: #8C9099. Gridlines: #2A2C31.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Electrolize throughout. Eyebrow 11.5px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing in cyan listing run conditions. Title 29px #F4F5F7 stating the finding. Subtitle 13.5px #8C9099 with measures and units.
- Panel labels 11px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing (white for the top panel, orange for the derivative panel). Tick labels 12px #8C9099. Onset labels 12px cyan. Peak labels 11.5px orange. Step brackets' labels 15px white.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 52, title at y 86, subtitle at y 112, left edge x 40.
- Two stacked panels sharing one x axis: the main panel from y 132 to 368 and the derivative panel from y 398 to 512, both from x 96 to 830. x tick labels only under the lower panel, with the axis title right-aligned below.
- The right margin (x 844 onward) holds step brackets for the main curve.
- "Source: illustrative data" 11.5px bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Each panel has its own y scale (never overlay two scales in one panel). 1px #2A2C31 gridlines both ways; no axis lines, the panel fill defines the plot area.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series as a 2.6px white line; a related rate or derivative as a 1.6px orange line in the lower panel with a 12% orange fill down to zero. Each transition gets a short 1.4px cyan vertical tick crossing the curve at its onset, labeled "onset 306 °C" to the left, plus a matching 10px cyan tick on the lower panel's baseline. Label each derivative peak centered 8px above it ("peak 330 °C").
- Step brackets: a 1.2px white bracket (6px arms) in the right margin spanning each step's drop, with "−38.4%" next to it, and a faint dashed 1px white line (35% opacity, 2 on 3 off) carrying each plateau level to the bracket.
- Bar chart: square-cornered white bars with the value above each in 15px white, an orange bar for the single highlighted category, cyan ticks for thresholds, on the same dark panels and gridlines.

Avoid: a second y-axis in one panel, glows, gradients other than the flat derivative fill, rounded corners, and bright colors beyond white, orange and cyan.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the step percentages add up with the residue to 100, that onset labels do not touch the curve or the title, and that the two panels line up on x exactly.
