Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Theatre Utilization" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an operating theatre list review pinned in the surgical department. Pale scrubs-green paper, deep surgical green for productive time, and red only where a session ran over.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EEF3F1 (pale surgical green-gray), with a 6px #2E7D5B band across the very top.
- Operating (productive) time: #2E7D5B (deep green). Also the eyebrow and the footer summary.
- Turnaround: #7FB592 (sage).
- Idle time: #D2DAD6 (light gray).
- Overrun past the session end: #C8453B (red), also its "+N min" label and the lowest utilization figure.
- Ink #1C2B25; secondary text #5B6B64; rules and gridlines #CCD8D3.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Work Sans. Eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, green. Title 27px 600 with -0.5px letter-spacing stating the finding. Subtitle 15px 400. Legend 13px 500. Column headers 10.5px 600 uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing. Row name 14.5px 600 plus a 13px muted descriptor. In-bar values 12px 600 white; idle values 11.5px 500 muted; right-hand percentages 15px 600.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow, title, subtitle, then a legend row of 14px rounded-2 swatches.
- Three columns: row labels (56 to about 200), the bar area (214 to 776, zero on the left), and a right column (818 to 904) with a 40 x 4px rounded track mini-bar and the right-aligned utilization percentage.
- Rows 40px tall with 22px bars and 0.8px #CCD8D3 separators, sorted by the ratio shown in the right column.
- Footer rule at y 548: source and the formula on the left, the overall average in green on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #CCD8D3 gridlines at each hour with labels ("0", "1h", "2h", "3h") under the rows; no y axis line.
- A 1.5px ink dashed (5 on, 4 off) vertical line at the scheduled session length, extending above the rows with "Session end" right-aligned against it and "4h" in bold ink at its foot.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked horizontal square-cornered bars in order operating, turnaround, then idle up to the session line. When a room runs past the line, the part beyond it is red and labeled "+N min" 7px to its right; idle is then zero. Label the operating segment with its minutes in white at its left, and idle segments of 20 minutes or more with their minutes centered in muted text.
- Line chart: one 2.5px #2E7D5B line per category over time, with the session length as the same dashed ink reference line, the turnaround share as a thinner #7FB592 line, and any points past the reference as #C8453B dots with "+N min" labels.

Avoid: rounded bar ends, gradients, a separate y-axis, legends in the plot, red for anything other than overrun, and gray so dark it competes with turnaround.

When you're done, render the chart and check that operating plus turnaround plus idle equals the session length on every non-overrun row, the overrun segments start exactly at the dashed line, the title's counts match the data, and the sage and gray segments are easy to tell apart.
