Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Textura" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a ruled page from a gothic book hand. Warm vellum, black ink, rubric red for what matters and a touch of lapis blue. Scholarly and ceremonial, but every number stays legible.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Vellum: #F5EEDC for the canvas, with a soft radial darkening toward the corners (#D9C9A6 at 55% opacity at the edge, transparent inside 55% of the radius).
- Ink: #1C1A17 for bars, labels and the blackletter title.
- Rubric red: #B3261E for the versal initial, the highlighted bar and every value figure.
- Lapis blue: #274C8C for the versal's penwork frame and the paragraph marks before notes. Nothing else.
- Ruling: #C9B393 for margin rules and the double rules between rows. Secondary text (subtitle, scale figures): #7A6446.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- UnifrakturMaguntia for the headline: 38px, #1C1A17, stating the finding in sentence case.
- EB Garamond for everything else, with old-style figures (font-variant-numeric: oldstyle-nums): subtitle 18px italic #7A6446; category labels 19px regular #1C1A17 (600 for the highlighted row); values 21px weight 500 #B3261E; scale figures 14px #7A6446; notes 16px #1C1A17.
- The versal initial: the title's first letter set as a 78px EB Garamond 600 capital in #B3261E, centered in a 62 x 70 px box drawn with a 1px #274C8C outer frame and a 0.5px inner frame 4px inside it, with short 1px lapis diagonal flourishes (8px) out from each corner ending in r 2 lapis dots. The rest of the title follows in blackletter.

Layout:
- Ruled margins: double vertical rules at x 52/57 and 903/908, and single head and foot rules at y 30 and 570, all 0.8px #C9B393 running nearly to the page edge.
- Versal box at x 76 to 138, y 46 to 116. Title baseline y 88 starting at x 156; subtitle baseline y 118 at x 158.
- Table from y 164: one row per category, 46px tall. Labels right-aligned at x 290; bars start at x 306 and reach x 846 at the scale maximum.
- Notes below the table at 24px line spacing, each opened by a lapis pilcrow in EB Garamond 600 20px at x 80 with the note text at x 98. The last note carries "Source: illustrative data".

Axes and grid:
- A double rule (two 0.8px #C9B393 lines 3px apart) spans x 80 to 880 at the top of every row and after the last row, so categories sit in a ruled column.
- A 1.2px #1C1A17 vertical rule marks the zero line. Scale figures along the head of the table, 8px above the first rule, with 0.6px dotted (1 on, 3 off) #C9B393 verticals down through the rows.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal solid bars, 18px tall, square-ended, #1C1A17; the one highlighted bar in #B3261E. Values in red old-style figures 10px past each bar end.
- Line chart: a 3px #1C1A17 line with square joins between the same double rules used as horizontal gridlines, points as small 7px ink lozenges (rotated squares), the highlighted point and its value in #B3261E. A second series in #B3261E at 2px, labeled directly at its end in EB Garamond italic.

Avoid: sans-serif type, rounded corners, shadows, gradients on marks, lining figures, blackletter for anything but the headline, and blue anywhere except the versal frame and pilcrows.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the versal reads as the first letter of the title, the blackletter headline is legible at thumbnail size, every value is in red old-style figures, and the double rules line up exactly between rows.
