Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Textile Repeat" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1950s Scandinavian printed-fabric sample card. A screen-printed band of leaves and berries across the top, flat inks, generous cream space and a woven label for the source.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #F4EDDD (cream).
- The three print inks, which are also the series colors in order: #48561F (deep olive), #C8683E (rust), #86A6C6 (dusty blue).
- Ink text: #2F2A22. Secondary text: #7D7466. Gridlines: #E2D8C4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Gloock for the title (34px, #2F2A22, sentence case, stating the finding) and the footer note (15px, #7D7466).
- Josefin Sans for everything else: subtitle 12.5px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in #7D7466 (measure and unit, joined by spaced middle dots); legend 14px 600; category labels 13.5px 700 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; axis labels 13px; callout values 13 to 15px 700; selvedge label 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Top band (y 0 to 84): a repeat every 80px of (a) a sprig: a 2px olive stem curving slightly, three almond leaves (two 22px olive, one 16px that alternates olive and dusty blue) and a cluster of three rust berries (r 4.6) at the top; and (b) between sprigs, a berry cluster: two 18px dusty-blue leaves splayed downward under a rust berry (r 5.5) with a 2px cream eye. Close the band with a 2px olive rule at y 84 and a 0.8px olive rule at y 89.
- Title baseline at y 142, subtitle at 172, legend at the right end of the subtitle line.
- Plot from x 110 to 900, y 214 to a baseline at 488. Category labels 28px below the baseline.
- Footer: the selvedge label bottom left; the footer note (mill name and sample card number) bottom right at y 566.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #E2D8C4 horizontal gridlines at round values, labeled "4k", "8k" in 13px #7D7466 right-aligned 14px left of the plot. No vertical gridlines, no y-axis line.
- A 1.4px #2F2A22 baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped vertical bars, 34px wide with 5px gaps inside a group, flat fills in the three inks in order, top corners rounded 6px, bottoms square on the baseline. Value labels only for the bars the title talks about, in the bar's color (use #4F6C8C for the blue so it reads as text).
- Line chart: 3px lines in the same three inks with round caps, each point marked by a small leaf-shaped marker (an 8px almond rotated along the line) or a berry dot r 4.5; no area fills.
- Legend: 14 x 16 px swatches with 3px rounded tops, then the label.

Labels and annotation:
- Selvedge label for the source: a 236 x 30 rust rectangle (rx 2) with a 1px cream dashed (3 on, 2.5 off) stitch border inset 4px, the text "SOURCE: ILLUSTRATIVE DATA" centered in cream, and six short 1.2px rust fringe threads (5px long, every 4.4px) sticking out of each short end.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, outlines on the bars, more than three series colors, photographic fabric textures, crowded value labels on every bar.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the leaf-and-berry band repeats evenly edge to edge, the three inks are clearly different from each other, the legend does not collide with the subtitle, and the selvedge label reads as a sewn-in label.
