Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Test Pressing" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a plain white paper sleeve from a vinyl test pressing, lying on a gray desk. Typed labels, black ink bars, pencil totals and a faded red approval stamp: a production document, not a marketing piece.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk: #D6D5D1 behind everything. Sleeve: #FFFFFF.
- Ink: #141414 for bars, typed labels, the plot's zero line and section rules.
- Pencil: #8A8A86 for totals, brace marks, the eyebrow, source and catalog line.
- Stamp: #B8483E (faded red).
- Minute gridlines: #E2E1DC. Axis text: #55554F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Special Elite (typewriter): title 28px in ink stating the finding; row labels 15px ("A1 Night Harbor"); value labels 14px at bar ends; pencil totals 18px with a 12px "total" under them.
- Karla: eyebrow 11px 700 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing ("TEST PRESSING · NOT FOR SALE"); subtitle 15px #55554F; group headers 12px 700 uppercase with 2.5px letter-spacing ("SIDE A"); axis labels 12px; stamp text 800 22px with 4px letter-spacing, then 11px 700 and 10px 700 lines; source 12px.

Layout:
- The sleeve is a 896 x 552 px white rectangle at (32, 24) with a soft shadow (6px blur, 3px down, 18% black).
- Text starts at x 72. Labels column x 72 to 240, bars from x 250 to 800, pencil totals to the right of the plot.
- Approval stamp at the top right: a 176 x 78 px box with a 3px outer and 1px inner border, 4px radius, rotated -7 degrees, at 90% opacity, with a grainy ink texture (fractal noise at base frequency 0.9 masking the stamp, about 20% dropout).

Axes and grid:
- Vertical minute gridlines, 1px #E2E1DC, labeled 0 to 9 below with a trailing "min". A 1.2px ink zero line. No frame.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 16px tall on a 36px row pitch, solid #141414, square ends, value typed 8px past the end. Groups (sides) are headed by a small uppercase label and separated by a 0.8px ink rule across the sleeve. Each group gets a thin pencil curly brace (1.3px, round caps) with its total written beside it.
- Line chart: a 2px #141414 line with small 5px square ink markers and typed value labels at key points; a second series in #8A8A86 dashed 4 3 like a pencil trace; totals in pencil at the right end.

Avoid: holes, discs or record motifs inside the plot area (they read as rendering artifacts), color in the data marks, rounded bars, gradients on the sleeve, a clean vector-looking stamp, and letting the stamp cover any data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stamp texture looks inked, nothing decorative sits inside the plot area, and the pencil totals and title difference are arithmetically right.
