Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Terrazzo" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the annual report of a boutique market hall. A white card resting on a warm terrazzo floor, calm teal data, one terracotta highlight. Friendly, tactile and polished.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Terrazzo floor: #F3EEE7 for the whole canvas.
- Terrazzo chips: #D58A6B (terracotta), #A9B99C (sage), #E6B7AE (rose) and #B8B1A8 (warm gray), each at 45 to 85% opacity.
- Card: #FFFFFF.
- Data: #1F5F63 (deep teal) for lines, ring markers and the eyebrow; #D5E6E3 (pale teal) for area fills, fading from 100% at the top of each area to 35% at the baseline.
- Highlight: #D58A6B (terracotta) for the single peak pill, its ring marker and the peak's category label.
- Type: #2B2A28 (charcoal) for titles and category labels, #55504A for subtitle and footer, #7A746C for axis numbers and small totals. Gridlines #ECE6DE.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Epilogue for everything. Eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in teal; title 31px 700 with -0.6px letter-spacing in charcoal, stating the finding; subtitle 15px 400 with measure, unit and period.
- Headline figure at top right: a 11px 600 uppercase label with 2px letter-spacing and the figure in 34px 700 teal with -0.8px letter-spacing, right aligned.
- Axis numbers 12px 400 #7A746C with thousands separators. Category labels 16px 600 in small caps (font-variant-caps: all-small-caps) with 1.6px letter-spacing; the peak's category in 700 terracotta. A 12px subtotal under each category label.
- Peak pill text 13.5px 700 white. Footer 12px.

Texture:
- Scatter about 1,500 small irregular polygons (4 to 6 jittered vertices, radius 1.2 to 4.4px, with about one in five 5 to 12px) over the floor in the four chip colors, randomly rotated and slightly flattened. Leave the floor clear behind every piece of header and footer text, and don't draw chips under the card.

Layout:
- Header on the floor from x 48: eyebrow baseline 62, title 100, subtitle 128. Headline figure right aligned at x 912.
- Card: x 40, y 150, 880 x 382, 18px corner radius, with a two-layer shadow cast onto the floor: dy 10 blur 14 and dy 1.5 blur 1.5, both #5E4A3A at 20% and 14%.
- Plot inside the card from x 104 to 892, baseline at y 460, top of scale at y 204. Category labels 28px under the baseline, subtotals 48px under.
- Footer on the floor at y 568: source at left, a marker key at right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines except a 1.2px charcoal baseline. Horizontal gridlines at round values, 1px #ECE6DE, labels right aligned 12px left of the plot.
- When categories are subdivided (days split into hours), separate them with 1px #ECE6DE dotted verticals (2 4) and leave a 12px gap at each side of every category so the shapes read as separate humps.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.6px #1F5F63 monotone smoothed line with round caps and joins over a pale teal area fill to the baseline. White round markers ringed in teal (r 5, 2.4px ring) only at meaningful points (for example each category's maximum). The single overall peak gets a larger marker (r 7, 3px terracotta ring), a 1.5px terracotta tick above it and a terracotta pill label (28px tall, fully rounded, 150px wide) with white text.
- Bar chart: deep teal bars with 6px rounded top corners, about 55% of the slot, over the same white card; the peak bar in terracotta with the same pill label above it. Value labels 12px #7A746C above the other bars.

Avoid: saturated or neon colors, more than one terracotta highlight, heavy gridlines, chips that touch text, a hard black shadow, and a legend box (label directly).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the terrazzo stays low contrast and reads as a floor behind the card, no chip sits behind header or footer text, the card shadow is soft and visible at the bottom edge, only the true peak is terracotta, and the pill's value matches the data.
