Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tenure Pyramid" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed workforce review. Warm ivory paper, two balanced muted hues mirrored around a soft graphite spine, and a serif title with the confidence of an annual people report.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EF (warm ivory).
- Left group: #C9848C (dusty rose); its header and value labels use #9A5A62.
- Right group: #5C7AA6 (muted slate blue); its header and value labels use #4A607E.
- Center spine: #57575E (soft graphite) with category labels in #FAF6EF.
- Comparison outline: #2E2B2A. Text: #2E2B2A ink, #7A726B secondary. Gridlines and rules: #E4DCD0.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Crimson Pro 600 for the title (34px, ink, stating the finding), and Crimson Pro italic 14px for the page folio.
- Albert Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing; subtitle 15px #7A726B; group headers 13px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing and a 13px total line under them; spine labels 12.5px 600; value labels 14px 600 with tabular figures; axis labels 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at top left.
- A 96px wide spine centered on the canvas with 6px rounded corners, running the full height of the bars. Bars extend outward from its edges: left group to the left, right group to the right.
- Group headers sit just above the plot, right-aligned against the spine on the left and left-aligned on the right, each with its total underneath. A small outline legend ("2025 shape") in the top right.
- Categories ordered bottom to top (the youngest or smallest band at the bottom), 44px per row, 30px bars.
- Footer rule, source line on the left, italic folio ("Page 9") on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #E4DCD0 gridlines every 25 units on each side, mirrored, with values below the plot counting outward from 0 at each spine edge, and an italic "people" unit label under the spine.
- No horizontal gridlines and no axis lines.

Marks:
- Bar chart (pyramid): square-ended flat bars, rose on the left and slate on the right. Over each bar draw last period's value as a 1.2px #2E2B2A dashed (3 on, 2 off) unfilled rectangle 3px taller than the bar on both edges. Value labels sit 8px beyond whichever reaches further, the bar or the outline, in the group's ink color. The category label is printed in the spine, centered on the row.
- Line chart: mirror it the same way: two lines plotted outward from the spine along each row (left group's value to the left, right group's to the right) as 2.5px lines with 4px dots, joined row to row, with last period as a 1.2px dashed #2E2B2A line; keep the spine labels and mirrored gridlines.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded bar ends, saturated reds or blues, a separate category axis outside the spine, and negative numbers on the left axis (both sides count up from zero).

When you're done, render the chart and check that both sides use the same scale, the axis numbers count outward from 0 on both sides, value labels never touch the dashed outlines, and the group totals match the sum of their bars.
