Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Teletext" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page of a broadcast teletext service on a television. Pure black, eight saturated colors, chunky block graphics and a strict 40 x 25 character grid. Cheerful, dense and completely flat.

Colors (use these exact values, and no others):
- Background: #000000.
- The eight teletext colors: #FFFFFF white, #FFFF00 yellow, #00FFFF cyan, #00FF00 green, #FF00FF magenta, #FF0000 red, #0000FF blue, and black.
- Data colors by band: #FFFF00 for the top band, #00FF00 for the middle band, #00FFFF for the bottom band. Title band background: #0000FF. Guide dots: #0000FF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- VT323 for every character, 30px, each glyph stretched to exactly one 24px-wide cell (textLength = characters x 24, lengthAdjust spacingAndGlyphs), baseline 19px below the cell top.
- Double-height title: the same text scaled 2x vertically from the top of its row (transform scale(1 2)), spanning two rows.

Layout (grid):
- 40 columns x 25 rows of 24 x 22px cells, with a 25px black border above and below. Everything snaps to cells; the only finer unit is the mosaic sixel, a 2 x 3 subdivision of a cell (12 x 7.33px).
- Row 0: page header, e.g. "P302" white, service name cyan, page number white, date and clock yellow.
- Rows 2 to 3: a full-width blue band holding the double-height yellow title, which states the finding, plus a small mosaic pictogram in yellow at the right.
- Row 4: subtitle in cyan with measure, unit and place.
- Rows 6 to 19: the chart. Row 20: category labels. Row 22: summary and color key. Row 23: source line in magenta. Row 24: four fastext link labels in red, green, yellow and cyan.

Axes and grid:
- Y labels in white at the left in columns 1 to 2. Guide lines are rows of separated blue sixels on every other sixel, drawn only in the gaps between bars. A 2px white baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: bars 3 cells wide with 2-cell gaps, built from sixels (one cell row = one unit, three sixels per unit, round to the nearest sixel). Color each bar by its band (yellow, green or cyan). Middle-band bars use separated mosaics (each sixel inset to 8 x 5.3px, leaving black gaps) as a second, non-color cue. Values in white on the row above each bar, the highlighted category's label in yellow.
- Line chart: plot each point as a single 2 x 2 sixel block and join them with sixel steps (a staircase of sixels in the series color), up to three series in yellow, cyan and green with the middle one in separated mosaics; label line ends with white values.

Avoid: anti-aliased curves, gradients, glows, scanlines, any color outside the eight, text that does not sit on the character grid, and thin strokes other than the baseline.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every glyph and block snaps to the grid, the double-height title fills exactly two rows, the key explains the bar colors and patterns, and no value label is crossed by a guide line.
