Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Teak Sideboard" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a 1950s Scandinavian furniture catalogue. Warm, calm and crafted: the plot panel is literally a teak sideboard, standing on four short tapered legs, with thin lines and small ring markers doing the data work.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F2E8 (warm off-white).
- Sideboard body (plot panel): #EFE6D5, with an inset 1px inlay border in #E0D3BD.
- Primary series, top slab and front legs: #9C5B2E (teak). Leg rail under the body: #7A4321. Top slab highlight strip: #B87848. Rear legs: #C49A78.
- Secondary series: #C9961F (mustard); its end label uses the darker #9A7215 so it reads as text.
- Ink (title, legend text): #3A2A1E. Secondary text and axis labels: #86745F. Gridlines: #E0D3BD.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Display for the title (36px, #3A2A1E, sentence case, stating the finding) and a small footer mark ("Catalogue No. 7", 15px, teak).
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in teak (workshop name and "ANNUAL OUTPUT" joined by a spaced middle dot); subtitle 16px #86745F with measure and unit; legend 14px 600; axis labels 13px (years 500); end-value labels 15px 700 in the series color; a small italic 13px annotation; source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title baseline at 104, subtitle at 134, legend on the subtitle line at the right.
- The plot panel is the sideboard body: a 3px-radius rectangle from x 92 to 868, y 178 to 478. Inside it, a second 1px inlay rectangle inset 10px (12px at the top).
- Top slab: a teak rectangle 14px tall that overhangs the body by 14px on each side (rx 3), sitting on the body's top edge, with a 3px #B87848 highlight strip along its upper edge.
- Under the body a 6px #7A4321 rail, inset 16px from each end.
- Four legs: tapered trapezoids 14px wide at the top narrowing to 6px at the foot. Front legs in teak, 44px long, 30px in from each end, splayed outward by 9px. Rear legs in #C49A78, 38px long, 64px in from each end, also splayed outward (they read as the back pair).
- Source line bottom left at y 566; the footer mark bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Everything lives inside the body. Y labels right-aligned 8px left of the plot start, inside the body. X labels (every other year) 24px below the baseline, still inside the body.
- Four faint 1px #E0D3BD gridlines only (sparse), a 1px #86745F zero baseline, no axis lines, no ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.2px straight-segment lines with round joins in teak and mustard, a ring marker at every point (r 3.6, filled with the body color #EFE6D5, 2px stroke in the series color). Draw the secondary series first. End-value labels 12px right of the last point in 15px Karla 700.
- Bar chart: slender square-topped bars inside the sideboard body, teak for the primary series and mustard for the secondary, about 50% of the band, grouped with a 4px gap; value labels 13px 600 above the bars. Keep the slab, legs and inlay exactly as for the line chart.
- Legend: a 30px line sample with a ring marker in the middle, then the label.

Labels and annotation:
- One small italic Karla note by the first point of the lead series ("120 cabinets") in teak.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, wood-grain photos, heavy gridlines, plotting outside the body, glossy effects, more than two series colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the legs are all splayed outward and read as a sideboard at thumbnail size, the gridlines stay faint, the markers are hollow rings, and the title's claim is true for the data.
