Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tea Steep" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tasting note from a serious tea house. A deep tea-green page, soft botanical line colors, a pale target band, and quiet, well-ruled details like a printed brewing card.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #16241F (deep tea green) for the whole canvas.
- Series colors: #8FBF6A (sencha green), #D49A4A (oolong amber), #C56C7A (rose hip), #A86B4A (black tea brown), #9FD4C0 (pale jade). Assign them by name meaning where possible.
- Target band: #9FD4C0 at 8% opacity, with 0.8px dotted edges (2 on, 3 off) in #9FD4C0 at 35% opacity.
- Main text: #E6EDE4. Secondary text: #8FA398. Minute gridlines and box rules: #243A32.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Noto Serif for the title (600, 32px, #E6EDE4, stating the finding), series labels (600, 15px, in the series color) and names in the caption box (400, 13px).
- Noto Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12.5px 500 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #8FA398; subtitle 15.5px #8FA398 with measure and unit; axis labels 12.5px #8FA398; band label 11px 500 uppercase, 1.6px letter-spacing, in #9FD4C0; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 56, title at y 96, subtitle at y 126.
- Plot from x 88 to 832, baseline y 506, top y 170. Y axis 0 to 100% with labels every 20.
- A thin ruled caption box inside the empty lower right of the plot (180px wide, #16241F fill, 0.8px #8FA398 outline at 60% opacity): a "WATER TEMPERATURE" header in 10.5px spaced caps, then one row per series at 22px pitch, each separated by a 0.8px #243A32 rule, with a small open ring (r 3.5) in the series color, the name, and the value right-aligned.
- Source at bottom left, y 574.

Axes and grid:
- No horizontal gridlines except the two band edges. Faint 1px #243A32 vertical lines every minute, full plot height.
- Signature sand-timer scale on the baseline: 8px ticks each minute, 5px at each half minute and 3px at each quarter minute, all 0.8px #8FA398, with labels "1 min", "2 min"... and a tiny outlined hourglass icon (10 x 14px, 1px stroke, sand pooled in the bottom half) before an axis title ("Steep time") at the far right.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth 2.5px lines with round caps, each ending at its own last point in an open circle (r 5, 2px ring in the series color, background-colored fill). Label each series directly next to its end circle in Noto Serif 15px 600 in the series color; nudge labels above or below so none touches another line.
- Bar chart: slim vertical bars (40% of the band) with 2px rounded tops in the series colors, each topped by an open ring marker and a direct serif label; the target band and minute-style gridlines stay behind the bars.
- The band's label sits inside the band at the top left ("TARGET 60–80%").

Avoid: a separate legend (the caption box is for extra facts, not color keys), fills under lines, markers at every data point, glows, gradients and heavy gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every series label is readable and touches no other line, the caption box sits in empty space, the title's claim matches which end points fall inside or outside the band, and similar hues stay distinguishable through their direct labels.
