Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tannery Cure" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tanner's process log. Calm, technical and warm, like a well-kept batch record from a vegetable tannery, with the stages of the cure laid out as bands.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #211712 (deep brown). Alternate stage bands: #2E211A.
- Series: #D69A3A (ochre) for the first measure, #EFE3C8 (cream) for the second. Light cream area fill at 7% opacity under the second series.
- Secondary text and ticks: #A38F7A. Stage dividers and gridlines: #4A3A30. Quiet notes: #7C6A5A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bitter 700, 32px, #EFE3C8 for the title, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Fira Sans for everything else: subtitle 15px 400 #A38F7A naming both measures and units; stage names 600 13px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing (small caps look) in #A38F7A; stage day ranges 11px #7C6A5A; panel measure labels 600 13px in the series color; tick labels 13px; end values 700 15px in the series color; annotation 13px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px margins. Title baseline at 64, subtitle at 94.
- Two measures with different units are never put on two y axes. Show them as two separately framed panels that share the x axis (x 112 to 880), with 38px of plain background between them: the first panel frame from y 124 to 318 (data from y 192 to 304), the second from y 356 to 500 (data from y 392 to 488). Outline each panel with a 1px #4A3A30 rectangle; each has its own scale and its measure label above its tick labels.
- Inside each panel, shade every second process stage with #2E211A and draw a 1px #4A3A30 divider at every stage boundary, so the stages line up across both panels. Stage labels are centered in each stage at the top of the first panel only (name at y 146, day range at y 162).
- Shared day axis at y 500 with 6px ticks and labels 24px below. Source and a stage note at y 568.

Axes and grid:
- Each panel gets 3 gridlines (0.8px #4A3A30, dotted 1 4); a meaningful reference (such as neutral pH 7) gets a dash 4 4 line and a small #7C6A5A label at the right end.
- Tick labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No axis lines beyond the panel frames; the second panel's 0 gridline is solid.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves (no overshoot), 3px, round caps. End dots r 4.5 in the series color with the final value 10px to the right. One annotation at the most dramatic point in the series color.
- Bar chart: slim bars (about 55% of the band) in ochre for the first measure, starting at zero, set over the same stage bands, with the second measure shown as a separately framed panel of cream bars beneath, never as a second axis.

Avoid: a right-hand axis, bright saturated colors, heavy gridlines, labels crossing the stage dividers, and legends (label each panel directly).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the two panels are clearly separated with their own frames and labeled scales and no dual axis, the stage labels are centered in their bands, and the end values and title agree with the data.
