Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Tangerine Teal" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a bold, upbeat civic data poster. Two confident saturated hues on warm white, fat friendly lines and one big number that tells you the story before you read a word.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFAF3 (warm white) for the whole canvas.
- Tangerine: #FF7A1A for the title bar, the eyebrow, the second series line and its area tint. Because tangerine is light on the page, its direct-label text uses the darker #D25A00.
- Deep teal: #00707A for the first series line, its area tint, its label and the big callout number.
- Ink: #1C1A17 for the headline, month labels and the baseline. Secondary text: #6B6259. Gridlines: #EDE3D6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bricolage Grotesque throughout (optical size axis on). Headline 800, 38px, -0.8px letter-spacing, ink, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Eyebrow above the headline: 800, 13px, uppercase, 2.5px letter-spacing, tangerine.
- Subtitle 400, 18px, #6B6259, naming measure and unit.
- Axis labels 400 15px #6B6259; category (x) labels 600 15px ink; series labels 800 17px in the series color with the value underneath in 400 15px.
- Callout number 800, 76px, -2px letter-spacing, teal, with a two-line caption (600 15px ink, then 400 15px #6B6259).
- Source line 400 13px #6B6259.

Layout:
- A solid tangerine bar 14px tall across the full top edge.
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow baseline at y 58, headline at y 100, subtitle at y 130.
- Plot from x 92 to 872, y 186 (top) to 516 (baseline). Leave about 100px on the right of the last data point for direct labels.
- The big callout number sits in an empty corner of the plot (here upper right, x 700, baseline y 246), on a page-colored knockout rectangle so gridlines don't run through it.
- Source bottom left at y 580; an optional note bottom right, right-aligned.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis line. Horizontal gridlines 1.2px #EDE3D6; y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, the top one carrying the unit ("40k").
- A heavy 2.5px ink baseline with round caps. No x ticks; x labels centered under each point at y 544.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 5px strokes with round caps and joins. Each series has an area fill down to zero: the teal area at 18% opacity, then the tangerine area painted first in the page color (knocking out the teal) and then in tangerine at 26% opacity, so the overlap reads as warm peach and the band between the lines stays teal. End dots r 7 in the series color with a 3px page-colored ring. Mark the peak with the same dot and a 800 15px value label above it.
- Bar chart: chunky bars (about 60% of the band) with 6px rounded top corners in teal, the highlighted or comparison series in tangerine, value labels 800 15px above each bar; the same heavy ink baseline and the big callout number for the headline figure.

Labels and annotation:
- Direct labels at the line ends, left-aligned 16px right of the end dots: series name on the first line, value on the second. No legend box.

Avoid: thin lines, drop shadows, gradients, more than two data hues, a boxed legend, and cramming the callout on top of the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the two areas read as teal band over a peach area (not muddy brown), the end labels don't collide, the callout number doesn't touch any line, and the headline is arithmetically true.
